X51 A0 - Can not select Legacy Boot option
Hello,
I have a X51 with A0 firmware. I upgraded my HDD with a new SSD and now trying to reinstall the Windows OS. However, I am not able to boot up with the USB Drive because the boot mode is UEFI. I am not able to change it to Legacy and there is no Secure Boot option available under security tab either. I can't even upgrade the Firmware to the latest one because of this. Please advise.

Yes, the USB Stick was made into a bootable Win 7 media. Its not even seeing the USB install media.
I just tried installing Win7 using a DVD which was burned with the ISO image we have for Windows 7. The install starts up but then stops with 0xc0000185 error. This is the only Windows 7 ISO we have and it do work for another test PC (A Dell OptiPlex) without any issues.

We wanted Windows 7 on that device, but if nothing works, we will try that option and go for Windows 10.

But these days if you download the win 10 installation media directly from microsoft using the free link they will take care of all that for you. https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10
Note the Microsoft free win 7 / 8.1 validated PC to win 10 upgrade still works using the above link. I just verified it over the weekend.

So basically what I'm saying is try downloading windows 10 onto your USB stick using a windows 10 PC.
Then, boot your x51 PC using the USB stick. Microsoft will install and activate itself based on your mobo (you won't need to enter a windows license or anything, it will auto activate as long as the PC shipped with windows 7, 8, or 10).

Did you remember to make the USB flash drive bootable first?
Also, note that for UEFI you'd usually want to boot from a FAT32 USB stick, you can convert the file system using disk management.

This might help to find the iso for win 7. You probably have ( had) the oem version.

The windows 7 iso can be downloaded direct from microsoft.com too.
The problem he had was the flash drive wasn't showing. I noted that uefi may require fat32 (can't read ntfs usb drives).
@sarinj Something else to consider is whether usb boot support is disabled in bios. This feature is (or at least I believe should be) listed in BIOs under boot > set boot priority > USB boot support > enable USB Boot support.
