X51 R3 front panel to R2
Hi all,
I'm thinking about modding my Alienware X51 R2. There is a optical drive which i have never used and i would like to remove it. But when it's out, the front panel still has openning.. It is possible to replace entire front panel with version from X51 R3? Are they compatible?
I was looking at disassembly guide(from 9:00) and there are two cables. Power cable and alien head cable.

My questions are if R3 front panel is compatible with R2 model and if it's possible to order somewhere spare part of this R3 front panel?
Thank you

BLACK Duct tape would solve that. Dell spare parts is not likely to sell that Item.

Aftermarket sites or ebay are where to look for an R2 panel (I don't know if that will fit).
There are "blanking plates" to cover the drive hole. That is another consideration.

I already have R2 :) but finding R3 panel is propably not easy if impossible.. That's why i'm hoping to find part number and buy only that front plastic without optical drive hole maybe from DELL.

So i'm ressurecting this old thread, maybe with better luck or not. Let's recap..
1./ I have Alienware X51 R2 and want to remove optical drive with cage, what is easy.
2./ But i don't want to leave case with non functional tray openning with eject button.
3./ I want to replace front case plastic panel, with panel from X51 R3 without optical drive openning.
Is it possible to purchase that spare part from DELL? If yes, i would like to know how to order it, who to contact and also part number would be nice. If somebody on these forums can obtain this information for me i would be grateful. I can handle installation by myself.
Thanks
PS: duck tape won't cut it.. but thanks ;)
