Alien FX not working, Alienware 17 laptop

Hi,

Noticed over the past week that my lights are no longer working. When I open the command center to play with the themes, I get this error message:

"The device you have selected is included in the current theme but AlienFX cannot detect this device on your system. Do you want to remove this device from the current theme?"

I've followed this thread to uninstall and reinstall Command Center and .NET framework. There are no unknown USB devices in my device manager.

The AlienFXTester.exe says... "It seems there is some problem with the AlienFX board".

Does anyone know how I can fix the lighting?

Thanks.

Hi,

Try a power drain:

  • Disconnect AC adapter and remove battery.
  • Press and hold the power button for 30 - 45 seconds.
  • Reconnect battery and charger.
  • Turn the system on and update to latest BIOS.
  • Re-install the Command Center again and try to set up a new theme (make sure the "Go Dark" option is not enabled).

Let me know how it goes!

Looks like it worked!

I disconnected the AC adapter and battery, then held down the power button for at least 45 seconds. I then reconnected the AC adapter and battery, and turned on the laptop... it was working again.

I did not have to download BIOS or re-install Command Center.

THANK YOU!
