Alienware 17 matte surface
I received this laptop on 12/25/13 as a Christmas present. Only a few days later I noticed the matte surface was peeling off on the corner, despite no trauma to the area. This morning I noticed that it is now happening on the other side. I'm very displeased about this.

Chris, I have the 18 and am using the 18 Vindicator backpack. I have never used any other back pack or carrying case with the 18. They only thing that goes in the backpack is the laptop in the back, power supply cords that came with the system (placed in middle compartment) and a mouse (placed in the front compartment. My 18 looks the same way with the corners peeling off. I'm extremely careful putting the 18 in the bag, making sure it does not touch any zippers or anything.

Are you using one of the Dell suggested Alienware Vindicator products to carry the Alienware 17?

The wear that you are seeing implies the case is either too snug and/or course where the laptop slides in?

I don't use a carrying case because my laptop has never been carried anywhere. The only place it has been is on my lap in bed or on my bedside table. When I said no trauma to the area, I absolutely meant it.

All,
After discussing this with the Alienware management team, it was decided that this issue is customer induced "wear and tear". Thus, it is not covered by any of the Dell Alienware warranties: Basic, Enhanced, Accidental Damage.

I fail to see what that has to do with me, as I've never put my computer is a backpack or taken it anyhere. I should have raised this issue earlier :/. I can't believe they're gonna tell me "wear and tear" after a month when it's never been outside my room :/. I'm not the only one having this problem. Is there anyone else I can raise this with/talk to? Very disappounting.

It does appear to be the result of normal wear and tear. Its unfortunate that it happens so easily on these machines. I'm wondering if its going to come off on the palm rest near the trackpads. If so the machine will start to look pretty bad when you open it up to use. The corners, although disapointing, I can deal with. If the palm rest starts peeling though I would be very upset with the look of the machine.
