Alienware Aurora will not turn on.

On Saturday I decided to do some regular cleaning to my PC, it is an Alienware Aurora.  This is step-by-step what I did:

  • Turned it off
  • Disconnected the Power
  • Opened the Case
  • Then disconnected power cables to both of the ATI Radeon HD5770 cards and removed them.
  • Then I did normal cleaning using a can of air.  I cleaned the cards, fans, front intake, liquid coolant grill. At that point it put the two cards back in place, connected power to them closed the case and plugged it back in.

(I was VERY careful not to let any liquid shoot out of the can of air.)

When I pushed the power button nothing happened.  So I double & triple checked the power and it was all good.  When I push the power button there isn't so much as a jolt or anything its like my PC is completely dead.  The odd thing is I can press the "FAN" button on the back of the case the fans all fire up and have power to them.  So naturally I checked the pin connectors that run to the front of the case and they were all good.

So at this point I removed the cards again and decided to see what would happen when I turned it on without any cards in it.  The power button still did nothing, but after about 30 seconds the PC started entirely on its own.   So I held the power button to shut it down and it worked, the pc turned off.  Pushed the button again to test it and they worked, the button functioned as normal.  There weren't any cards in the PC so it beeped and I shut it down.  DIsconnected the power, reinstalled the cards and pressed the power button and it didn't work.  Just like before it was maybe 20 seconds later and it turned on entirely on its own, or at least delayed from me pressing the button.

My computer ran for two days straight and last night I finally went to shut it down.  Everything went normal, except the fans and lights stayed on.   I couldn't turn the PC back on just like other times so I had to remove the power cord.  Went to turn it on and now I am back to square one again.  Power button doesn't work and it hasn't turned on at all.

I have reseated the RAM, changed out the BIOS battery, tried a different power cord and remevoed both the cards again to see if that would work and so far I still have nothing.  Just like before the "FAN" button on the back that runs all fans at MAX still works and all the fans are going.

There is an Orange light in the front of the case that I have no clue what its for but whenever there is power to the case that is always on. (no clue if that means anything or is normal but i'm trying to be very detailed for you guys.)

Always shutdown, turn off, unplug from wall, then press power button again to dissipate any power left in the power supply. If you didn't do that the very first time, something might have gotten damaged.

Try with only one video card in case one is now damaged and holding machine down.

Unplug everything except keyboard, mouse and monitor. Plug them all into the back ports.

Reset all connections to the motherboard (including main power, power switch, etc).

Check power switch with an ohm meter.

If you can get it to start again, run Dell-AW Diags.

The switch on the back of the Power Supply is suppose-ably a PS Test.

The orange light means the MIO-Board is getting power. Yes, it should be on if the PS is plugged in, even though the machine is turned off.

Check wall plug. Use a different one (different breaker) ... use long outside grounded extension cord to get to other room. Or, use UPS Battery that monitors power.
