Alienware m17x "No Audio Output Device is Installed" error.

I recently had to do a system restore due to my computer running slowly, and afterwards, the speed has been fixed, but the audio is now broken. I'm getting the "No audio output device is installed" error. I've looked it up and it seems like 90% of m17x owners get this error, and it's kinda pathetic on Dell's part.

Anyway, I found several posts saying the same thing- download the newest BIOS. I did that and it worked, but only temporarily. The next time I turned my computer on, it's as if the BIOS was automatically deleted or something. I'm not going to reinstall BIOS every time I want to use my computer, that's ridiculous, so does anyone know what I should do about this issue?

Hi, I'm guessing you have either a M17xR4 or Alienware 17 - Both of which use SoundBlaster ReCon 3Di as the sound driver.

That software has known issues, try re-installing the driver, it may fix the problem but there's no certainty, otherwise you going to have to put up with restarting you laptop everytime they are not working or replace the motherboard, but the issue is so common you may end up with a new mobo with the same issue, it happens to M18xR2 and Alienware 18's as well. I have a M18xR2, it usually only happens occasionally, but every now and then it can take 5-10 restart to reset, happened to me 3 days ago.

Pity they didn't stick with IDT audio

I've reinstalled both the audio driver and BIOS, and they worked, but only until the computer was turned off again.

So, basically, what I got from your answer was, my only options are:

-reinstall BIOS every time I turn my computer on

-get a new motherboard (which, from what I've heard, doesn't even work half the time)

Awesome. Just awesome.
