alienware x51 bios settings lost after unplug
Hi all I hope you are well. I have brand new x-51 and I had to change the bios boot mode from legacy to UEFI (for some reason it was trying to boot from legacy when I first got it last friday). But everytime I unplug the pc the bios settings are set back to factory default, is this normal?

No clues anyone? Kind of frustrating, this is a brand new machine (not even a week old). The time is not preserved after unplug in windows either.

hm that doesnt sound great. I am computer savvy myself but this is not really a procedure I should have to perform on a brand new PC I think you'll agree. I suspect it's a bad motherboard because in my experience a dead CMOS battery is normally alerted by beeps from the motherboard. Dell have organised a repair this wednesday at great inconvenience to myself, so I expect this to be fixed or I will be contacting the Citizens Advice Bureau.

Has anyone else had this issue?

Be sure CMOS battery is good and installed properly (maybe install a new one just to be on the safe side ... easy fix if it works). Reset BIOS to Defaults one last time, and then make a few edits and save them.
If it still happens, I would say the motherboard is bad.

dead cmos battery dosent always send a code ... i got a desktop here (older dell p4) as a file server with no cmos battery atall and dont trigger any beeps(cept single post beep which is normal) ...
anyway i dont know the X51 board but if it has a cmos jumper to clear.. is it possible its in wrong jumpers...
did it give you a warning when first post that everything was default .. press F2 to enter bios or F1 to continue type message?
aslo you can cry to whoever you want and wont get anywere since it seems you never called dell tech support.. they need a chance to fix.. or replace before any complaint can be handled by a 3rd party been there done that . with dell and Damlier Chrysler

thanks for the replies both of you, I had actually contacted tech support three times prior to posting here, as I mentioned in the above post they have arranged a fix this wednesday at my place of work, which is extremely inconvenient to myself. I have to say I am very dissatisfied with the service as a whole. By the wat 89fordprobee, I did see that message - something like:
RTC reset , default settings F1, F2 etc
so I think you may be onto something there. Is this something I can fix easily myself without voiding my warranty ?
