Dell Alienware vs Pre Dell Alienware.
All i could say here in summary is I am very very totally happy with Dell take over of Alienware:
Prices are reflective of market prices.
Phone Service very good now used to be horrible before, worse pre Dell. in 2009 Dell phone service was bad but nowhere near as bad as pre Dell Alienware. 2011 Dell phone service has improved dramatically.
Warranty with Dell Alienware is top notch they don't steal our money they actually will look after their customers. This sadly cant be said about pre Dell Alienware but thank God they are no longer operating.
However there will always be something that will go wrong and unfortunately it is not isolated to only Dell product. All that concerns aside, you are safe with Dell.
I tried to build my own PC with all the top notch parts and components money could buy, believe me it's a lot more expensive then Dell Alienware products. The only difference between building your own and buying Dellianware - warranty. Dellianware has warranty where as the parts you buy will be hard press trying to get any shops to replace the parts 11 months down the track.
I have had this problem before with warranty on parts I buy, all computer shops will not log your personal details down and which parts you bought. They rely on you losing your receipts so you will be hard pressed getting any warranty.
My conclusion, I will be buying more Alienware from Dell, very happy with their warranty that's my number concern.

"OMG you're so right he came over to our house at 7AM telling me he has problem with his computer "The websites are really slow" !!!! omg that's his internet :( but he thinks it's my fault."
Thats funny. I just had an idea. Get yourself an empty can, jar or something and put on it " Tech Support - will also except muffins " Then when he comes over and starts to complain just pick it up and shake it a little.
Before you know it you will have Donuts,Bear Claws, Bday Cake mmmm lol .

Dell has no control over it. Funny I know but they outsource it to other people. For me I get Unisys techs. I happen to know these guys so I don't have many issues. And if I do I don't call Dell I call Unisys. http://www.unisys.com/unisys/
And when you call them...stuff gets done asap. I had a tech blacklisted from coming here once and last I heard he got fired. Now they all know me and have for years. When they get a part because Dell wouldn't send it to me they just drop it off with me. They don't even open the box. I change it out and send it back myslef. I like it that way. Great bunch of guys over there.
Last time I needed a part from Dell was a few months back. It was ordered on wednewday and thursday I got the auto call that they would be here friday. Friday came and went so come saturday I called and complained. I had the part here at 8am on Monday,a holiday with a big fat apology from the tech. I went through some hoops getting the direct number to Unisys but it is worth it's weight in gold.
Try to find out who does your tech calls and get in touch with them. When the tech truly knows hes job is on the line he will man up fast. When you get a tech you like get hes card and request him the next time.

The Sandy Bridge Extreme is not going to be released till the end of the year so the 980x will remain intels flagship untill then.
Oh yeah thats right. For some reason I was thinking of the recall replacments. bummer

Alienware was bought by Dell in 2006.. all your comments are on post-Dell take over.
You have absolutely no experience with pre-Dell Alienware.
The prices you gave for parts are insane.. I have never seen a motherboard that cost as much as you listed.
980x retails for what? $1,200 when it FIRST came out...
Dell support, for as long as I can remember has not been too great, no major complains here.. but phone support for Alienware was def superior prior to Dell. Alienware support won numerous awards.

2 days into owning a Mac Mini and I'm wondering why I ever bothered with a PC....
Oh games, that's right...... :)
Seriously though I'm kinda surprised at my own reaction having been a die hard PC user for 20 years. The Wireless keyboard and Magic Trackpad both detected automatically and were installed without having to insert a thing (good thing too as I didn't have a wired keyboard to boot with like I had to have for my Alienware). It really has been a pleasure. Apple even delivered 4 days prior to commitment date and the things I ordered with the machine actually arrived the day after I rodered it, very surprising and pleasing.....
Still, there's a place for everything and my Alienware is finally running stable (well it's lasted 24 hours....... *fingers crossed*).

Pre-Alienware Dell:
Had the latest and geatest hardware (at that time) available in its configurations almost immediately after those hardware products were released
Modern Alienware Dell:
Just the opposite! The Geforce 580gtx has been out on the market and in other competitiers configurations since November. Dell only very recently added it to its configurations.
Dell/Alienware even now still only has SATA 2 HDs available in its configs. How long has SATA 3 been out? All of Alienwares major competitors have had SATA 3 for quite a while now.

What is wrong with you? These forums are for people that have tech issues or want to give advice to someone that owns the same system they do. Yet all you do is post junk about how bad Dell is and try to belittle people. Not one thing you posted just now is correct yet you have the audacity to tell someone else that they don't have a clue?
First your so called thread that proves Alienware was bought by Dell in 2006. I will just copy/paste my answer to you on that thread in this one.
Now back to your statment about Alienware being bought by Dell in 2006. Yes it was. What you left out was Alienware had FULL CONTROL over the company. Thats right. The Alienware that was sold in 2008 was the original Alienware from the parts used right down to the support.
"Although Dell's acquisition was widley anticipated Alienware chief executive Nelson Gonzalez said that his company will remain a wholly owned subsidiary of Dell, continuing its own brand, design, sales and marketing, and support."
"For Gonzalez and Aguila, the deal, which was completed for an undisclosed price, offered access to Dell's distribution system and the benefits of having a deep-pocketed parent company, all without ceding control over their company."
Second is you are saying she has no experience with pre-Dell Alienware but you are wrong. She bought an Alienware in 2008 which is a 100% Alienware system.
Next you try to say the prices she listed are insane and you have never seen a motherboard cost that much yet EVERY part she listed is straight from newegg and the Asus Rampage board she listed is the mid-grade version. Asus makes 4 types of Rampage boards and two of them cost even more. if anyone here has ever paid $300+ for a motherboard give a thumbs up, I know I have
Then you claim she listed the 980x as $1200 dollors? Did I read that right because her list says $999 and that is what the 980x has been selling for..for what? ever?
And last you say Alienware phone support was superior to Dells. Really? I have to ask because I can name off a good dozen or so sites that would like to have a word with you if you really believe that. There are entire blogs devoted to bashing Pre-Dell Alienware support. I have listed them before, I think I listed what..20 the last time before Chris deleted it? You don't like Dell phone support? Fine but im sure there are others that do like it and one person in this thread has had experience with both Alienware and Pre-Dell Alienware and I would take her word over yours any day of the week.
She made a very good list of components, a very good list. She hit it right on the nose and all you can do is bash her for it? What's wrong with you? I have gone back and looked at all your posts Jesse Brown. Not once have you come to the forums with an issue or to help someone out but instead you have bashed ether Dell or users in this forum and complained.
You need to relax some and try to find a better place to deal with whatever trouble you are having.

I agree with morblore...
The 980x has never been $1200. Maybe on ebay from sellers that dont know what the actual price is for them...but not in retail. The HIGHEST the 980x ever was on Newegg was $1049-1099 and that was when it first came out and supply was low. Intel's Extreme Edition Desktop CPUs are always $1000 from what I can remember in the past. The Core 2 Extremes, the i7 965 and 975.....all were the same price.
And yes there are motherboards that cost way over $300, for the real nice quality boards that can overclock like crazy. The Rampage III Extreme, EVGA Classified3, EVGA SR-2, I can keep going....I had spent $399.99 on an EVGA Classified board when it first came out. And its an amazing board. There is a saying.....you get what you pay for...
And there is abosolutely nothing wrong with the Dell Tech Support. As long as you are calm and polite when talking to them, there should be nothing to worry about.
Dell has its pros and cons like any other company. I have had Dell systems for over 10 years, and never had an issue with tech support.

Dell phone support is second to none. Infact I rate Dell phone support as up there with Apple. Dell is the only company that will call me and follow up making sure I am aware when the parts and the technicians are coming over. I have never had any support like this with any other product. This is the main reason why I am still buying Dell product. Most importantly they are very polite and courteous on the phone.

Well you all never seem to get the point of what I am saying..
I will say it again, I have threeeeee Alienware's. I want them to IMPROVE what they do rather than continue to move down this slippery slope.
I have no problem paying the money, but Alienware will slowly move out of people's radars if they find out they can easily get better computers for less.
I love the brand, the idea, the story behind it, the more you complain the better of a chance you have of being heard. Whether this HAS or has not ever happened in the past, it does not change the fact that Alienware is a premium brand, and has made no efforts to even come close to competing.
Alienware makes up hardly any of Dell's profits, so the fact that Dell owns them is not that great, because they obviously arent too worried about it. If they were, problems like the M11x's hinges would most likely not have happened.
I am 19 years old, it is not like I expect the entire world to take my opinions seriously.
Finally, Dell took complete control over Alienware in September of 2009. It is stated on Alienware's own website. That is fact.
My fathers cousin, worked at Alienware until Dell bought them, he left Dell to work at Alienware, once Dell bought Alienware, he says everything started changing. He left to work for IBM where he works today. I go by what he says.
Whether Dell had control over the company or not, the reason Alienware sold to Dell was to get more BUYING POWER, who do you think was placing the orders for the components in your systems from 2006 and on? Dell.
****My apologies for my earlier statement, I read things fast and misread them -- the 980x was always $999, I stated that the most I have ever seen them for was $1,200 back when they first came out****
