GTX 1080 TI

I'm trying to find out if my alienware 07jnh0 a02 motherboard is compatible with the new GTX 1080 TI? This is the first time I'm trying to upgrade any hardware in my system so iI'm looking for some help from someone more experienced than myself so I don't waste $700. Thank you for any help.

If you have the 875w power-supply in your Aurora-R4, it should work fine.

It's basically the same upgrade as I recently did to my Aurora-R1.  Yes, even the eventual likely release of the MSI "Gaming-X" version will fit (you just remove the internal hinged cover). I posted some pics here somewhere.

What model Alienware desktop is it?

Is it the normal height version or one inch taller like some of the later GTX-1070/1080 "specialized cooler" models?

Why would it not work?

It's an Aurora r4. I wasn't aware that there are specialized cooling variants so I might look at them. If you need any advanced info of my rig let me know and I'll try to find out what I can. As I said this is my first time upgrading hardware in my PC so I may be a little paranoid as well as a little PC illiterate. Every video I find online about these topics seem to assume that the one upgrading has a degree in computer sciences.

So I received the EVGA version on amazon a few weeks ago and I have been having a hard time finding any games to really test it in my system. All my stress tests are being passed with flying colors. Install took about 30 minutes or so and to date have not had any issues. Thank you for your help and giving me the confidence to pull the trigger on this.

Hi Tesla,

I'm planning to buy the gaming X edition and want to see the pics you were referring to.

Will EVGA FTW3 fit as well? Which version do you recommend?

I have the R4.

Thanks and appreciated.

I really like my MSI Gaming-X card. Yes, it will fit in Aurora-R4.

Agreed.

Really impressed with the build-quality, advanced cooler design, and software bundle on the MSI "Gaming Series" cards in general. Thing about the Gaming-X ... a bit of OC (that you can use or not) but not too extreme, and price is good.

Thanks :)

The link is for 1070 and I want the 1080 Ti Gaming-X. That will fit?

i don't know for sure. the 1080TI is 11 mm longer then the 1070 and needs 3 Slots.

GPU Size:
GTX 1070 Gaming X: 279x140x42mm (Dual Slot)
GTX 1080TI Gaming x: 290x140x51mm (tripple Slot)

Good catch and worthy of note.

Just wanted to mention ... if to be used in Aurora-R4, the extra length is not a problem.

Neither is extra thickness if used as a "single card".  Some may remember, there has been other "triple slot cards" released over the years. That usually means the "cooling solution" needed to be "beefed-up" a bit, so they did it. We already covered that the extra 1-inch height is not a problem in this machine.

Update: I bought the Gaming-X and it fits and works fine. I had to remove the cover of the old card.

Thanks for the help
