Upgrading an Alienware X51 R2 GPU, Case and PSU
Hi,
I originally thought of upgrading my Alienware x51's GPU alone, to a GTX 970. After looking around on many forum posts I decided that it would just be easier if I bought a new case and PSU as well, to allow for further upgrading in the future. Is this a good idea? I have little to no experience building computers, hence why I decided just to buy an Alienware in the first place, rather than building my own. I've just decided that now I need to upgrade and I was wondering if this would be a good way to start.
My current specs are:
Intel Core i5 4460 @ 3.20GHz
4095MB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 745
Alienware 0PGRP5 (SOCKET 0)
The parts I am considering upgrading to are:
Corsair CC-9011079-WW Carbide Series 600C Case
Corsair CP-9020048-UK Builder Series CX600 600W Power Supply
EVGA 4GB GeForce GTX 970 GPU
And an extra Samsung 850 EVO 1TB 2.5 SSD
Is this a feasible build at all? Would I be able to move the motherboard, hard drive and CPU over to the new case without much experience at all? Would all of the components work together?
Thanks for the help,
Lucas

No.
Have a good look at the pictures I posted, you will see the ports at the rear are different from the R2 to R3.
As the ports are part of the motherboard, you cannot swap them around.
So to confirm.
X51 R1 and R2 motherboards and case are the same and interchangeable.
X51 R3 motherboards and case are different from R1 and R2 so you can not use motherboards from them in R3

Hello.
Reading your specs suggests you have a X51R2.
The X51 R3 has different ports at the rear and you are not able to change the motherboard like you were able to from the X51 R1 to X51 R2.
it's a pity as the R3 has a mSATA slot on the GPU riser so your able to use 2 HDD in the X51 R3

Thanks for the reply Andrew,
My model is indeed an R2, so does this mean I am able to move the motherboard into another case, but am unable to use two hard drives?
Thanks,
Lucas
