USB Device Silicon Labs

I have the USB Device Not Recognized issue.   I can't use the current articles on how to repair it because I do not have any of the drivers listed in those articles.    My driver is not Renesas, Western Digital, Hitachi, or Seagate.    According to my Programs and Features window, I have a Silicon Labs Software USB 3.1.

I have tried uninstalling the host controllers in the Device Manager and doing a hard restart.  That worked once (two days ago), but not this time.

Please point me to where I can get instructions for fixing that particular brand name USB driver.  Thanks.

Please provide us with your Alienware system model name and revision (if there is one). Also, please confirm what operating system you are using with the system.

Try reinstalling the Intel integrated USB 3.0 driver, click here for the driver download link. Also, try flashing the Bios to the latest version if you haven’t already done so. Click here for the Bios download link.

Where would I get "Ghost"?  From what I understand I need both "Ghost" and "Rufus" to create a bootable DOS USB flash drive.     Or are all flash drives of that type?
Anyway, I have downloaded Rufus, but I cant find "Ghost".

Note:  I need a bootable DOS USB flash drive to copy (or flash) a file to BIOS right?

Tried the first.   Both downloads.   Both came back that my operating system does not support those files.
Trying the second one now ...

Can you open device manager and confirm what devices are showing with a yellow caution sign if any? For the Bios update, you do not require a USB bootable drive. Just download and run the file, the system will do the rest.

Please confirm what is the exact message that you receive about it not being supported. Try to right click on the Bios file and then select "Run as administrator". We will have to look further in to this message that you are receiving, there is no reason why it should say something like this unless it were a different model (not the Alienware X51 R2 desktop system).

Thank you for confirming this. You have the Alienware X51 R1 system, not the R2 version. That makes sense as to why you are receiving that error message, they are different revisions. Click here for the Renesas USB 3.0 driver link and click here for the latest Bios download link. Please try to install the USB driver. If it still shows the USB error message, flash the Bios. Let us know how it goes.

I installed the 3.0 Reneslas USB Root thing and that didn't fix the problem.   Prior to that, I installed the latest BIOS (A14), yesterday.
