Restore factory settings on x51?

To set the system to the factory installed states follow the steps given below:

Restart the system and press the F8 key at the dell logo every 2 seconds. On the ‘Advanced boot Options’ select down arrow key and select ‘Repairs computer’.

• Select the keyboard method’ that is the country you belong to and click ‘Next’.
• Enter User name and password.
• In the ‘System Recovery Options’ click on ‘Dell Data safe Restore and Emergency Backup’
• Select ‘Restore computer and preserve my new files or change files (recommended)’.
• Click ‘Next’ to begin scanning your computer for changed files.
• Next follow the onscreen instruction by clicking on ‘Next’ button.
• When the restore operation is completed, click Finish to restart the computer.

The software is now installed as it was when the computer was first received.

Please revert if the system has Wndows 8 Operating System.

Thank you - I'll check this out later when I get home.  I was under the impression that those options weren't available on the X51.

Hi, I'm currently using Alienware x51 with Windows 8, and I would like to restore my PC back to factory state, but I didn't do any recovery/backup before since the first day I got it, so can I restore my x51 back to factory state with internal recovery media(if it's included)? thanks!

Please follow the steps given below to restore the system to the factory installed state:

1. Plug in the AC adapter.
2. Point to the right hand corner of the screen to bring up the charms bar.
3. Click Settings.
4. Click the shutdown button, hold down the Shift Key and click Restart from the options provided.
5. The system restarts, login and click Troubleshoot.
6. Click the Dell Backup and Recovery icon.
7. The system restarts and comes back up, click ‘Next’ on the Dell Backup and Recovery Screen.
8. The system would be checked to see if the smart repair option can fix the issue, click ‘Next’ once this is done.
9. You will be prompted to select the backup to be used, click the factory image option or select from one of the backups. Click Next.
10. 10.   You will be prompted to back up your files, if needed do so by selecting the option ‘Yes, backup my personal files’ (Make sure to have an external backup hard drive handy.) or select No, Erase my files.
11. The system goes ahead and completes the restore of the operating system. Click Restart when prompted.
12. Follow the on-screen instructions to setup the system with windows.

Hi, I've tried the steps but when I reach step 5 means after the x51 restart, it just back to login screen and when i log in it just like normal, didn't lead me to the further steps, and before restart it show that some error appear and the error code is 80070490. What does it means? Is there any other way that i can restore my x51 back to factory state?

Follow the steps on this article to use AlienRespawn to restore to factory settings. If the Recovery Partition is not available, you can do a clean Windows installation as explained on this video.
