X51-R1, known CPU compatibility list?
Alienware X51-R1 KM92T motherboard with Socket 1155 LGA currently with a Intel® Core™ i3-2120 CPU @ 3.30GHz processor
id like to upgrade but the list of useable processorts seems very short.
I3-2120 3.3GHz
I5-2320 Quad Core, 3.0GHz
I5-3450 Quad Core, 3.10GHz
i7-2600 Quad Core, 3.4GHz
I7-3770 Quad Core,3.4GHz
I5-2320 Quad Core, 3.0GHz
I5-3450 Quad Core, 3.10GHz
i7-2600 Quad Core, 3.4GHz
I7-3770 Quad Core,3.4GHz
is there a expanded list i find it hard to belive that only one i5 or one i7 processor can work with this mother board
like maybe a i5 3470 etc?

Motherboard KM92T was only sold on the X51-R1. The CPUs tested/validated by Dell were =

yes but surely other ivy bridge processors of the smae generation work such as the i5 3470? not sure how these and only these listed work

We cannot answer that question because we did not test other CPU. You will need to purchase the i5-3470 and install it to see if it will work.
