15 R2, 1.8.0 BIOS update failed, mouse stopped working

My Alienware 15R2 laptop has been repeatedly attempting to download the recent Alienware_15R2_17R3_1.8.0.EXE BIOS update.  It fails each time.

After the first failed update attempt, my external mouse stopped being recognized by my laptop.

I have 3 USB ports, and I have verified that all work, and have also verified that multiple mice work, which I have attempted to connect to my laptop - none are recognized by my laptop, now.

Oddly, my touchpad still works.

I'm assuming that if the new BIOS update eventually is able to download and install, it will fix the issue - not sure.

Can you help?

One additional bit of info:

When I insert the mouse's USB insert, or in the case of a wired mouse - insert the USB, the computer recognizes the USB insert.  Then, downloads or prepares the new device, and tells you the device is ready.

But, none of the mouses move the cursor, along with no clicks on the mouses are recogniced by the computer.

(I've tried 3 different mouses.)

Another update:

As I was on the dell community site, posting this, I came across the driver and downloads section of the website.

I found the 1.8.0 BIOS update, and downloaded it - essentially bypassing the Support Assist app.

It downloaded, without failing the download - i.e., the BIOS downloaded and passed.

Unfortunately, my mouse still does not work.

Any help is appreciated.

Hi @Drashler and @Yowoobaby welcome to this free user-to-user Alienware laptop discussion forum.

Thank you for sharing that BIOS version 1.8.0 has been installed. There is no requirement to keep updating BIOS just because a new version is posted. Only update BIOS version if it offers a feature that an application requires. Make sure to follow the very specific BIOS installation instructions so that system is not bricked.

If Dell mouse, check Device Manager for yellow triangle warnings and if required, install updated Dell drivers.
