15 R2, cannot boot into anything (incl. USB boot)
Specifications =
Alienware 15 R2
i7-6700HQ
GTX 980M
16GB ram
Windows 10 64-bit
1 SSD Toshiba 128GB
1 SSD Samsung 970 EVO (OS on this one)
1 HDD Seagate 1TB
The problem:
The laptop stopped booting into windows all of a sudden, I can see the windows logo loading (spinning circles) but it freezes during that, goes black and reboots. I ran alienware diagnostic tool first, and it gave me a faulty SSD error (Incorrect Status = 80000000000000007 Could not read SMARTlog 2, Error Code: 2000-0151) So I tried removing the faulty SSD above (Samsung) with the idea of installing windows in the other SSD. I tried to boot from a bootable USB, created using the Windows 10 tool, but booting from that gives me a BSOD. In fact, booting from any other USB tool (windows recovery tool, Hiren Boot CD, windows bootable USB to reinstall windows on other SSD ) gives me the same results. The BSOD with error is Machine Check Exception, which after googling I seem to understand it's a General Hardware failure (could be CPU, Memory, bus, i/o, etc ) The Diagnostic tool from alienware does not find any errors with the CPU or memory. Help in pinpointing what the faulty piece of hardware could be, if that's even the real problem?
