15 R3, Bios update destroyed my laptop

Hi,

Does anyone know a solution to thermal issues after a bios update? Is there a way to overcome the bios downgrade lock?

My Alienware 15 R3 is almost unusable after a "urgent" update suggested by dell support assist which I naively believed. Before, I could run games at 1080p, over 60hz, at high setting and laptop barely heats up to 80-88C for a couple of hours. Now even at 720p and 30fps, the laptop heats up like crazy and crashes sometimes when it reach 100'C after barely about 20mins of gaming (even for lighter titles like risk of rain 2).

I tried contacting dell support but they would not help me since my warranty is expired, and asked me to rely on the community.

If anyone knows anything that could help, please help.

Thank you,

Paing.

Download the older version of your bios and install it from windows to overcome the bios downgrade lock. Then for thermals I'd recommend the app called speedfan to control your fan speeds but make sure to go to the configure tab and then the advanced tab then enable dell support. After that make sure your power plan is in Preformance mode In the control panel and the battery icon on the taskbar.
