15 R3, Windows 10 Unknown Device

Hello All, I am hoping someone can help me.

I have installed a new 1TB M.2 SSD into my Alienware 15R3 and re-installed windows 10 from scratch. I have installed all the recommended drivers but still have an unknown device in device manager, I have search high and low and can't seem to find any drivers for it, please see the details below:

ACPI\VEN_CPL&DEV_0004

ACPI\CPL0004

*CPL0004

Any information on this would be fantastic,

Many Thanks,

Richard

I had the same issue!

Trying all versions from A05 to A02 didn't work, same "GetLastError fffffffd" error.

I did a search for alienware osd and got a link to this page https://www.dell.com/support/home/en-uk/drivers/DriversDetails?driverId=N9PMP

Which is for Alienware On Screen Display Application version Version 0.32.0.8C, A00

This installed, I then UPDATED to the latest version A05

I no longer have any unknown device in device manager

Yes, it was the OSD that needed to be installed to fix the "unknown device" in device manager.

So you were right in that regard @U2CAMEB4ME

Others online had suggested the device code ACPI\CPL0004 applies to the Alienware OSD.

The problem was that it seems now, with later versions of Windows 10, the latest driver file causes an error.  Installing the original version, then updating with the latest version works and keeps your system fully patched.

There must be something in the original install that the later driver patches rely on?

Hi @rgh.key  welcome to this user to user discussion forum. This is not Dell Support.

The usual fix to solve this problem is to open local admin account, visit Device Manager, disable then delete this driver, and then Restart (not Shut Down) to save this change. When system boots, Windows 10 will automatically install a new driver, if required. If a device then stops working, right click on top icon and request find new devices so that their drivers are automatically installed.

Please click on Kudos to say thank you for response from another user. Please share an update on progress, so that other users derive benefit from your experience. Thank you.

Hi @U2CAMEB4ME  the Alienware OSD application's focus is to fix the Dell update application process. Is this a belt and braces approach to fix both Windows 10 update and Dell update application processes?
