17 R1, i7-4700MQ, possible upgrades

Alienware 17

Alienware 17

Hey everyone,

Recently i switched to desktop after using my alienware for 10 years, but i am trying to do something with it, maybe upgrade it/refresh to have available laptop when i move to other place but in order to do that, i need to have a fast working machine. Its not for games at all, just regular stuff, but i want to make it as fast and smooth as possible .

I am aware that probably nothing can be done, but i dont want to just throw it away so hopefully there are solutions

Intel Core i7-4700MQ , Geforce GTX770m with 3GB GDDR5 and 24GB Ram. Samsung EVO SSD. Deployed 2013.

I need to send it to service for cleaning, battery change as somehow with new one its turning off, its very loud as well but to be fair if i cant upgrade it/make it faster at all i dont think there is any point in spending money on it.

Are there any solutions or its dead?

Thanks

I have a few of these laptops and they can run really fast. Mine boot cold to Windows in around 7-10 seconds.

I wouldn't send it off to serviced as that's something you can do pretty easily yourself and you'll learn a lot about your laptop at the same time. If you're running slow then it could be that your processor is starting to struggle (doubtful) or more likely that the SSD needs to be replaced or even one or more of the RAM sticks.

I'm not sure why the battery would be shutting off the system, you will need to take the rear cover off, unplug the battery and see if it still does it on mains power only.
