Are you able to boot into desktop?

when a process needed for the operating to run properly, well, dies. Processes are like programs, but multiple processes can be used by a single program- and processes directly interact with your processor.

When you turn your computer on, enter Safe Mode.

To enter Safe Mode in Windows 10:

  1. Restart your PC.

  2. Press Shift + restart before the Windows logo appears.

  3. Click See Advanced Repair Options.

  4. Click Troubleshoot.

  5. Click Advanced Options.

  6. Click Windows Startup Settings.

  7. Click Restart.

  8. You then see a list where you can choose Safe Mode or Safe Mode with Networking (depending on whether you think you’ll need the Internet).

Once you do get into safe mode, be sure to check all of your drivers for issues. To do that, press Windows Key + X and click Device Manager, and from that menu, get Windows to check all of your devices for updates. If driver updates are available, install them.

If the issue still persists, I suggest you to download the Windows 10 ISO and create a Media Creation Tool and then perform Automatic Repair.

Hi @Wickahoo  sharing the error code would have been great. Not sure about this problem, have a look in Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Event Viewer and select Windows Logs, Applications. Wait for the application logs to load. If you can remember the time, there should be a critical error (in red text). If not in Applications, try the other options. Having found the most likely log entry, open it to see if there is a Microsoft error code. Please share an update with the Dell Community user to user forum. Thank you.

Hi @Wickahoo  thank your for sharing the image. Event ID 1000 says faulting module is kernelbase.dll and says the AWCC v5.2.97 application is the cause. This suggests that the AWCC v5.2.97 application was not fully installed, or is incompatible with the installed version of Windows 10, or the kernelbase.dll file has been corrupted.

Check that Windows OS is the most recent version with all updates, and Device Manager says all drivers are up to date. Use the System File Checker tool to repair missing or corrupted system files.

The AWCC v5.2.97 update application should always be downloaded and Run as administrator to get a good install. Please uninstall the AWCC application and the OC Controls application. Download both update applications onto your laptop. Always install the AWCC update first and then the OC Controls update, wait for these to give their sucessfully installed wndow and then Restart to load these into Windows OS.

Hopefully this laptop crashing problem will have been fixed. Please share an update. Thank you.

Since you're saying that it only crashes in Chrome and not Edge then the fault must lay with Chrome and some sort of incompatibility with your AWCC or possibly how Windows is running the programs. If reinstalling AWCC doesn't fix the problem then you can try reinstalling Chrome and then Windows if that doesn't work.

Another option is to try Firefox. I have Chrome on my work PC but I use Firefox for all my personal machines.

I would ask you to try these steps and advise the result,

*Restart the system and then keep tapping the F8 Key.Then you should be able to view advanced boot options.

*Under advanced boot options select last known good configuration, this will roll back windows to the time the system was working fine.

*Service tag is a unique no which is 7 digit long with the help of which I can know the  system specifications. You can get the service tag of the system via system BIOS to check the same restart the system and press the F2 key. After you are in system BIOS under system information you can get the service tag information.

Hoping this helps.

Hi @Wickahoo  when your 17 is running you can go to Dell Support for Alienware 17 and customise this information to your 17 by clicking on the box [Detect Drivers]. This will automatically detect and display your system service tag. However, the Dell Community forbids putting your service tag information in any of their public domain threads, such as this one.

Hi @AdrianG001 you already know that this 17 is the Alienware 17 R1, i7-4700MQ, GTX 780M, Laptop. So I guess that you are asking Wickahoo to confirm that the service tag on the rear panel, in BIOS and detected by support are identical. Thereby, it is revealed that the system board is either the original or a replacement. Is that what you wanted to know?

Hi @Wickahoo  thank you for running system file checker. This did not find and repair missing or corrupted system files. But something is not working properly because your system keeps crashing. Please try the following:-

This may take more than an hour, so choose the best time for you to do this. Start within Local Admin account and create a Restore point. Open Control Panel, File Explorer Options, View tab's Hidden Files and Folders, click on Show hidden files, folders and drives. Then open This PC, click on OS (C:) and open Properties, open Tools tab and run Error Checking. When finished, it will either say everything is OK or errors were found and they require fixing. To fix errors, follow the automated prompts so that these errors are corrected, and then Restart to save the error corrections. (Remember to reinstate hidden files.)

Please share if this has fixed the laptop keeps crashing problem. Thank you.
