17 R2, CPU temperatures
Dear All,
After a morning working with excel, word, chrome and acrobat reader (not so much) i noticed that my Alienware 17R2 was pretty hot.
I downloaded a couple of softwares to monitor the temperature (HWMonitor) and RealTem. and both of them gave me values ranging between 60-70 C for the 4 cores, that it is more than what I would expect (I am using 25% CPU and 66% of RAM approx.). Furthermore, my laptop has this stuff you use to put behind laptops that has a couple of fans to cool it more.
So,
Am I right being concerned about tempratures?
What should I do to fix the problem?
Laptop: Alienware 17R2, CPU: i7-4710

Btw, I have been reading that apparently with the Alienware command center you can monitor temperatures, but when i go to my Alienware command centre I dont see any place where i can check temperatures

60-70 are just slightly high for low loads. If you want to reduce temperatures, there are 2 options:
1. Undervolt the cpu. This is pretty easy with Intel Extreme Tuning Utility and you should do it.
2. Repaste with a good thermal paste such as thermal grizzly kryonaut or if you are comfortable with liquid metal then Thermal Grizzly Conductonaut.

Hi,
Did you try stressing the CPU with a benchmark or while gaming? If yes, what were the highest temperatures that you saw?

Get some server grade paste to combat the heat.
get some thermal pads as well.

This stuff combated my Alienware 15 R1 with the 4710HQ which used to reach 104c on Heavy load but when I put this stuff on it, it dropped the temps down to 70c on heavy load. So I overclocked it to 4.1 GHz with the graphics amp of course. Then the temps still only went to 75c and nothing higher on heavy load. I also remembered to clean my heat sinks and dust them off to get more airflow.
