17 R4, how to sync non-supported Apple iPhone?

I have an Alienware 17 R4 and an iPhone 11 Pro Max.

I have plugged the USB cable into the Thunderbolt 3 (USB Type-C) port at the back, and it recognizes the devices at it starts charging the phone, however when I open iTunes to backup/sync the phone, the phone doesn't show up in iTunes.

However if I plug the cable into the USB 3.0 (Type-C) port on the left hand side of the pc it shows up in iTunes and I can sync it.

How can I get it to work through the port on the back of the Alienware, as according to the manual the port on the back is faster than the one on the side.
