17 R5, strange wifi problem
I'm re-posting this from the AlienwareArena forums as I've received no responses :
I recently bought an Alienware 17 R5. I've had no real issues with it except for some bluescreens related to the Killer NIC / wifi chipset but, since I installed driver updates, I've had no more bluescreens. I'm now experiencing a new strange problem though : I have a wifi network where the access points are Netgear "Orbi WiFi System (RBK50) AC3000". I have one main access point and two satellites. To get to the point, when I leave my laptop on for a long time, such as overnight, then I'll be able to connect to my wifi network but I have no Internet access. The only solution I've found is to reboot the laptop. Note that my laptop has the "Killer 1550 802.11ac 2x2 WiFi and Bluetooth 5.0" option installed. Also, note that my laptop is set to "performance mode" in power options in Windows 10 and the only thing that turns off is the screen.
None of my other devices seem to be experiencing any problems.
I keep experiencing the above problem as I left my laptop for a few hours, and I experienced the same behavior and had to reboot. When my network connection went wonky, about the only site I could access was www.google.com, but, in any browser, if I clicked on the search results, I'd get the following errors, in Chrome and IE respectively :
"ERR_CONNECTION_FAILED"
"Details
This website could not be found.
Error Code: INET_E_RESOURCE_NOT_FOUND"
Firefox didn't give me any errors but it did nothing when trying to connect to anything, as if I had not even pressed enter -- strange.
It sound to me like there's some kind of strange DNS problem.
I'm at a lost as to how to fix this or what the exact problem is.
If anyone can suggest a solution or if you've had similar problems, please let me know.
Thanks,
jdb2

Had the same exact issues with my Alienware 17 R5. The registry "fix" described at the link below seems to have improved my issues a lot if not fixed them completely. I can definetly go days now where previously my laptop would start getting messed up after 24 hours. My computer came with 1809 from Dell but even though the link says it is a hit or miss fix for 1809 it has helped my situation.

Did you try changing your network from Private to Public first? Because unless I'm reading it wrong, that's all the article says should be done for Windows 10 1809.
I literally just tried that today. But I also applied a BIOS update, too.
Time will tell, I guess. I'll post back my results over the next few days.

My system has sometimes gone long periods without problems but lately it's been every day.
Thanks for the links and info ( from you and everyone else in this forum :) ) -- I'll try them today.

Actually replaced a 1435 Killer to the 1550 Killer, and using the beta drivers off Killers website. Fixed all my issues I was having. Was having a hard time connecting, staying connected, it would drop randomly. For $35 I upgraded to the Killer, but could have easily went with Intel.
1435 came with my 15 R3 and is absolute garbage.

Sense Upgrading, it's working as intended.. so either it was just junk, or not manufactured properly.

OK, I just did the Clean Install instructions for the whole Killer mess (http://support.killernetworking.com/knowledge-base/clean-install-killer-control-center/)....
New Driver is as follows:
Driver Provider: Intel
Driver Date: 2/27/2019
Driver Version: 21.0.0.5
...and it went smoothly (although just make sure you only delete the Temp folder contents)
I also reset my network back to Private from Public since now I seem to have the updated/latest driver.
Now, we'll wait and see....
UPDATE 4/1/2019 late morning: So far, rock solid!
UPDATE 4/1/2019 late night: AAAAARGH! It busted again...:-(
I disabled Advanced Stream Detect in the Killer Control Center....starting over.....
UPDATE 4/6/2019 afternoon: Still happening.
Next step is to go back from Private to Public network....
UPDATE 4/10/2019 afternoon: Still happening.
(not sure what to try next)

I did edits to my previous post...but I'm not sure if the group gets notified.
Anyway, as my next step, I did the registry edits that were suggested for the older version of Windows 10 (1803). We'll see if that works.

Thanks for keeping your progress with this problem updated :) It's appreciated :)
I also have Windows 10 build 1803. I tried Killer's uninstallation instructions for their control center and their driver, but, even when I told the uninstaller to not auto-install via Windows Update, it would "respawn" every time.
I also applied the registry patch. I haven't noticed any problems yet except for my VPN connection dropping constantly.
I'll keep you updated on whether this fixes the problem.
Thanks,

Well, the WiFi connection just dropped again >:( . Disconnecting and reconnecting to my WiFi network seems to have temporarily fixed the problem.
It appears that Killer will have to release a new driver because the current one is just too buggy.
Thanks,

For every laptop user, it is important to know how to Fix Microsoft Compatibility Telemetry. Just follow the simple steps and disable the Microsoft compatibility telemetry.

Same issue on my AW R5-17. I have seen posts all over the place on this issue. It would be nice if Dell could provide a resolution that works.

I systematically did everything in this thread. The tipper seemed to be the registry fixes...even though they are for 1803, they seemed to have fixed the problem in 1809. Since I did that change, my browsers stay connected.
I may start reverting the other changes to see if the desired effect holds true.
1st...reverting network profile back from Public to Private....

Same issue, same Wifi card, M17R5. Connects to router, works fine for minutes, then drops internet. Anytime this happens diagnostics tells me it has dropped DNS settings. Plug the M17R5 directly into router, no issue.

It's been almost 2 months of trouble free connection. Definitely the registry fix for Win 1803 did it.
Good luck to anyone else finding this thread.

I'm running Windows 10 Pro Version 1809 (OS Build 17763.503) and nothing in this entire thread has helped me, even the registry fix. My Alienware 17 R5 drops its WiFi connection multiple times per day now. I don't know what to do :(

@jdb2 ...I am at Win 10 Pro, 1809 installed on 2/19/2019, OS Build 17763.557
Doing an msinfo32 in the System Summary area, I can see the BIOS is Alienware 1.6.5 on 2/23/2019. Base Board version is A00
From the Components/Network area...
Product Type Killer(R) Wireless-AC 1550 Wireless Network Adapter (9260NGW) 160MHz
Driver c:\windows\system32\drivers\netwtw08.sys (21.0.0.5, 8.72 MB (9,143,584 bytes), 3/1/2019 10:10 PM)
For Killer Control Center, running Version 2.0.2369.0
What do you have?
It would be worth running through the registry fix again after you get everything updated. https://support.killernetworking.com/knowledge-base/no-internet-access-when-connected-affects-ethernet-and-or-wi-fi/
