17 R5, USB-C to HDMI adapter doesn't work

Hi there,

I'm using 17R3 and want to have an extra HDMI port to support both my VR headset and extra monitor. I'm using Philips SWR1608G/93 USB-C to HDMI adapter and found the external monitor (HP EliteDisplay E233 1FH46A8) showed nothing and went to sleep mode. I've tested the adapter on my another laptop (ASUS) and it works well, so it shouldn't be the adapter's function issue. I tested using the same HDMI cable and the two laptops use the same Windows 10 OS versions (and I use the same registration code for both laptops).

I've tried to disable the intel integrated graphics card, yet not work.

Thanks in advance.

Sorry that I made a mistake. Mine is 17 R5, not R3. I figured out the solution by myself.

I didn't check through each port of the laptop and only saw the USB Type-C port at the left edge. In fact, there is another USB Type-C port right beside the HDMI port of the laptop with a flash symbol on top of it. This is the one connected to the Nvidia graphics card.

For R3, please check whether the USB Type-C port is connected to the Nvidia graphics card or Intel integrated graphics card. That might be an inspiration.

Thanks anyway.
