On the same boat as well.

Also keeping us waiting in the dark right before the release of Cyberpunk 2077 hurts. People need leading time to have the compatibility information and place orders for the new graphic cards which are out of stock everywhere and hard to come by at this point.

All,

* Open the sticky at the top of this Alienware Laptops board, "FAQ Alienware Laptops"
* Open, "AGA (Alienware Graphic Amplifier) FAQ"

This is a extremely lazy and uninformative response. You know what people are asking and you take the laziest way out possible. I, and many others, are just asking something simple and it can be responded with something simple.

For example, if there is going to be no support, simply say it. If there is going to be support for Nvidia 3000/AMD 6000, say it. At the moment, Dell is treating all AGA owners like trash. On the AGA page, it says it is supporting newer GPU. We have not seen any support for newer GPU yet for something so simple.

Considering I have paid for 4 years of extended warranty on my laptop and it is soon ending (December/Jan) your response and Dell's image makes me want to not extend that at all. It should say "FAQ - Don't extend your warranty because we refuse to acknowledge support or back up our claims of future support".

Hi @MOCCOR  @DELL-Chris M evidently the Alienware 17 R5 is supported (in the FAQ list). Our 17 R5 AWCC does not detect any of the preinstalled Alien FX 2.0 devices and it is dark. The Alienware Graphics Amplifier (AGA) comes with a standard 1 year warranty. But our 17 R5 came with a 1 year RTB warranty. Our 1 year warranty is still running, but the 17 R5 faults were not fixed when recently returned under warranty.  There is no incentive to get more Dell Alienware products for gaming software that cannot be fully deployed.

MOCCOR,

My intent was not to be lazy and uninformative. My intent was to train Forum users in the "usage" of our available sticky FAQs. But OK, does this meet your approval?

* Open the sticky at the top of this Alienware Laptops board, "FAQ Alienware Laptops"
* Open, "AGA (Alienware Graphic Amplifier) FAQ"
* Scroll down to the section, "Supported video cards"
* Read the first bullet point =
"The soon to be EOL (end of life) AGA is not going to be validated by Dell with the RTX 3xxx video cards"

That is less lazy, but it is still deflecting. And deflecting constantly, the same thing over and over, is lazy. I've made a few threads on Dell forums, they mostly just got no responses at all. Which is annoying and stressful when trying to get support. But funnily even when people do get 'support', its just some deflecting or locking/deleting threads and that is just disrespectful.

I bought the AGA to use dGPU on them. It worked fine with the 2000 series, yes. But on the product page, it specifically says 2000 series and newer GPU. I have ordered a 3080 two months ago off Dell and the delivery date is like late January, so Dell definitely has the GPUs to make these AGA work and yet it isn't.

Furthermore, the Area 51M was also supposed to "support upgrades", according to the product page, and it doesn't. To me, the AGA buyers and users are being treated just like the Area 51M buyers/users. I am just one person extremely disappointed in Dell for their laziness and disrespectfulness of treating customers this way with sneaky and misleading sales tactics, but there are many more.

Dell needs to actually put time into a forum outside of these Dell forums, because then you will really see what problems people are having and how they feel. Why would I renew a extended warranty for 1500$ when I can buy a desktop for 1500$ That Actually Supports Upgrading Gpus?

Hello guys,

Just like all of you, i have some issue with the new RTX serie 30.

I explain what i did until now :

i pluged my 3080 and try to install the drivers, the problem is : Graphic amplifier got a 450W inside and not a 750W like it is recommended for using serie 30 ...

So, what i did is replace the 450W by a 1000W and plug it to my 3080 ... once again, fans work, led works (of my 3080) howerver, the computer cant launch it ...

So yes, it is really a compability issue.

I trully hope DELL will find a fix to this ...

im going back to my 1080 with the 450W by default.

PS : i tried during 6h with all possibilities and old drivers. I got a message : "restart your computer for launch the 3080" but once i did it, my 2060 rtx (inside my M15) replace the 3080.

<Legalistic not allowed. Dell-Admin> Hopefully they get another for this false advertisement of the AGA (see pic I will be uploading).

They conveniently updated their AGA FAQ recently to say it won't be supporting the 3000 series. I guess that means they are going to make the AMD 6000 series work? Even then, who would buy this thing with the way Dell is treating customers.

I want a refund for my AGA due to the misleading and false advertisement of the AGA as proven in this screenshot I took a few days ago, hoping Dell wouldn't do something like this but expecting it anyway.

Also, I will be canceling my 3080 order from Dell, since clearly I do not need it. And I will not be renewing my laptop warranty, since clearly Dell does not like to back up their claims of support, but instead sneakily edits posts/FAQs because they are too afraid to comment back with their change of mind.

Last new : it is not compatible for Alienware Graphic Amplifier (AGA) even if you change the 450W inside by a 1200W.

i called the SAV this morning and basic answer : "you didnt buy the RTX 3080 on our store so there is nothing we can do for you". Congratulation DELL / Alienware, i wont buy anything from you anymore ...

PS : your competitor does allow the RTX 3080 on their external eGPU (chroma X).

Hey Guys,

Hope everyone's day gets better.

I was Thinking that maybe Having an interface Thats slowly being fazed out might be the cause of this issue as like @Cyclope80 mentioned that their Competitor with the Chroma X supports the newest GPU and that might be because of either A. The Interface such as the PCIe Version and/or Firmware or B. The Connector and How it engages with the CPU when using the External GPU.

And I forgot but didn't Razer make it only proprietary to their computers and they'll update that later.

True, but the advantage of the AGA is the direct connection to you laptop, NOT using thunderbolt 3, which is a little slower.

Come on Dell, sort this out and get the AGA (which is a great eGPU) up to spec please!
