Area-51m R1, screen flickering
Hi all,
I am based in India, I bought my Alienware Area-51m R1 from USA in 2020. Since last one week my laptop screen is flickering a lot. I have an external display connected so not completely impacted, but I would like to get this sorted. I also observed that since the time I started getting this issue, sometimes system does not start properly, meaning power button has power but nothing shows up on display or keyboard/trackpad. I tried going to dell service center, but these guys are telling me that warranty has expired, they cannot help me. They told me to contact customer care contact. I tried that as well, but the moment I enter the express service code, the bot is not able to identify the service code and does not connect to tech support. I somehow think I need to get the screen replaced, but I want to do it at an authorized center instead of general repair shop. please let me know what I can do for this.

Run a screen diagnostic - hold the D key through powerup. Does the flickering occur on the test screens? If it does, the screen likely does need to be replaced. On most Alienware notebooks, the screen is a complete assembly with back cover and cables -- any local computer repair shop can handle that. On a five year old system, even Dell in the US likely won't have parts for it.
If the flickering does not occur during the screen diagnostic, it's likely a mainboard or cable issue. Start by disconnecting and reconnecting (both ends if it's not a touchscreen). If that doesn't solve the problem and there is no evident cable damage, the mainboard is the likely faulty part.

I finally got some free time for my investigation and have confirmed that this is a hardware problem. Dell tech support has declined any further assistance, even paid service. I now have to think towards fixing it myself, this being a screen issue I am not very confident of doing it myself, but I have found part in two sites across US and UK, which I can purchase if I can make sense of how to install it.

As of now I have not found how to replace the display ( full assembly ), will take time to find that out. I also got my older XPS laptop fixed, so I have no urgency to jump into action here. I also am using the external display which makes my work manageable. hoping to sort this issue around christmas vacation.
