M14x R2, LCD replacement
Hi all,
The LCD on my m14x has failed, and I now receive a no POST error on startup with eight beeps. I’ve run the appropriate diagnostic tests to ensure it is an issue with the LCD and not the motherboard itself, and I’ve now removed the LCD and it’s cables.
I use an external monitor so the loss of the built in LCD isn’t really a problem, but the motherboard refusing to boot into the OS due to the lack of an LCD obviously is.
I’d like to get a small and cheap replacement LCD to plug in and make the motherboard happy so I can continue using the pc through an external monitor, I’m thinking one of those small displays you can get for a raspberry pi.
Unfortunately, I can’t find any info on what LCD’s are and are not compatible for the purpose of plugging into the motherboard and avoiding the 8 beep no post error.

Where are you located? I have a cracked M14x panel that is useless to me but it should get you out of your jam. It allows the laptop to get past the pre-boot checks. Only problem is that I'm in Australia so you'd just have to pay shipping.

Run hardware diagnostics on the LCD screenWhen you notice screen abnormalities like flickering, distortion, clarity issues, fuzzy or blurry images, horizontal or vertical lines, color fade, running a diagnostic test on the LCD helps identify if the issue is with the LCD panel.

You need an LCD the system will recognize, and the safest option is the same model you now have. Next best is another LCD known to have shipped with this model system.
Notebook firmware is coded with a list of EDIDs for screens shipped as factory installs -- anything else is a big gamble, which may or may not be recognized.
Genuine replacement LCDs are not that expensive.
