m15 R2, fan speed not picking up during games?
Alienware M15 R2
So as the title suggests. I am able to change my fan speed settings using the AWCC (Alienware Command Center), and this appears to work up until the point I start playing a game. Then it seems as though the fan speed goes back to a near idle state, causing the laptop to get extremely hot. This is with the fan profile set to "Cool" or "performance".
I'm not really sure why this is? I know the AWCC is affecting the fan speed as they spool up to varying levels depending on what profile I select, and again on start up they will spool right up. It's just that this seems to be being overridden somewhere when the laptop actually needs them, i.e. when it gets hot. Any ideas?
EDIT: tried updating drivers, and initially seemed to work with fans spooling up on opening a game. After a minute or so they seem to settle and sit at the same RPM, regardless of what I'm doing on the PC or how hot it gets.

Further to the above information, the AWCC seems to be periodically reading just 2 degrees C for the GPU temperature, which is clearly wrong (ambient room temp is 21 degrees). It could be that this is related to the fan issue.

Hi @Hamsterminator welcome to this free user-to-user Alienware laptop discussion forum.
From your good description the GPU fan's on-board thermistor (temperature sensor) has failed. The CPU and GPU fans are usually replaced as a pair. Both fans should have white labels with Dell Part Number (DP/N) and Manufacturer's label stating their voltage. Please search for and watch Alienware m15 R2 (7/1/2019) YouTube video showing how to remove (and replace) CPU & GPU fans.

Hi Crimsom. Thanks for trying to help with this, however I don't believe the GPU temperature sensor is at fault. Using Task manager I can see the GPU temperature quite clearly. It also sporadically appears in the AWCC, seemingly at random. When it disappears from the AWCC, it is still visible on the Task Manager, so it is not a loose connection. I notice others with different model have reported this same problem in previous years, however I have yet to see a concrete solution to it.
