Only work on 10750 not the i9-10980hk. My friend had a m15r3 with i7 10750. I was able to lower the temp with just simple adjustments in intel XTU. but nothing would work on the i9.

These CPUs do run hot and are rated to 100 C -- just about all the current Intel CPUs run this way and it doesn't matter if it's an Inspiron, Pavilion, Alienware or Macbook.

We've seen this before from Intel -- when it was behind the AMD curve in performance.  Essentially it appears these CPUs have been pushed to redline to keep them competitive with AMD.

If the system is running at 100 C at max stress, it's within tolerance - the system will throttle back from there in ordinary operation.

Here's the spec sheet on that CPU

Well to be honest. Doing a stress test on a computer is kind of pointless.

because even games won’t stress the CPU to that point and The systems fans already have to kick in to reduce heat from the CPU and GPU.

Dont under-volt it and don’t overclock it because it’s pointless.

Overclocking pros and cons:

+ Higher speeds usually means better preformance

+ Games will run smoother

+ Makes your hardware last a long time in case a new one comes out

- Higher speeds also mean more heat output and Power draw

- Games will run smoother but not that much as newer games are using the GPU more than the CPU

-It may make your computer match the performance of a newer model of your laptop but it doesn’t make it last as long as a non overclocked one.

I'm so thankful for this video. I bought the M15 R3 for $1,300 open box from best buy with an i7-10750H and a RTX 2070 super wow this thing out of the box CPU at 98 to 100 HOT HOT TEMPS nothing lower during gaming. The temps through the roof GPU was about 70 / 76 . I was just about to return it but this video helped out so much. Running VR ULTRA performance with Quest 2 Link Cable smooth temps at 77 to 82. Playing 2K21, Valhalla, COD, Tomb Raider, Army 4 and BFV tested CPU temps 74 to 84 nothing more nothing less out standing performance CPU is running at 4.0 to 4.1 more than enough. I also tried Witcher 3 in 2k on an Asus monitor temps at 80 tops. unbelievable. THANK YOU. First time using this software and so far flawless....

Sorry! I should of included the link to the YouTube video.

I've been playing for the last 5 hours straight VR single player game control, Valhalla and red dead.

Undervolting my CPU reduced temps almost 20 degrees. Its the single most impactful change I've made since owning this machine.

Absolutely undervolt the CPU.

You can’t under lock the i9 in the command center? If that’s not an option maybe the BIOS?

Hi Everyone,

I have the same CPU on my 15m R3, however, I've noticed that the CPU temps jump up when downloading and installing updates. I use HWmonitor and many of the individual cores reach 100c sometimes. During gaming the CPU temps seem okay. I have a custom laptop cooler with two Noctua fans running at max speed so its sucking up cool air. Anyone else notice this? I had Dell repaste the CPU with Arctic Mx 4 last week. Still doing the temp spikes on boot-up and/or downloading/installing updates.

Set the cpu to 3.2ghz and then tell me how it goes. Maybe even drop the speeds to the cpus base by setting the laptop in power saving mode or Intel XTU.

Too bad, no Intel XTU nor ThrottleStop has done anything for me. I have set it to the minimun offset volt possible in the tool (m15 R3, intel Core i7 10750H) and I also tried other settings and set the system like in the video. The system runs in 70s and 80s degrees for a while, but it eventually hits the 100 degrees celsius, and runs almost like without undervolting.

Intel XTU does not work for my CPU, as it is not compatible now. I also noticed that the system by itself reduces voltage and reduces processor speed when running at 100 degrees.

Well, I managed to use ThrottleStop to undervolt and reduce Turbo Boost speed and controlled temps to up 85 degrees in Cyberpunk 2077. Nice, however, and then remembered an article from Dell that explained how the Alienware configuration and factory performance for Intel processors and how the system itself controls the voltage and CPU clock dynamically to control temp, even though it reaches 100 degrees (which is totally normal for Intel processors since Gen 9th during heavy workload like during gaming with the Turbo Boost engaged most of the time). I also found how each CPU mode in AWCC works (Full Power, Performance, Balance, Cooling and Quiet). So I basically understood that if I paid for High Performance in my m15 R3, why reducing its performance because I am worry about the CPU temperature. I decided to use my system as it is, keep it in cooling mode and in performance mode when gaming. All good.

It is cool to undervolt the system, but that is like having a car with a V8 Twin Turbo engine and use it like a 4 cylinders engine econocar.

Hi @Ao W @Mr_AJ @redoct83 @SSGSSTJ @Alienator21 !

Its been a long time and I wanted to say that I recommend you guys do a Out Of Warranty Repair from DELL, as it should help with these thermal issues by replacing the paste and cleaning out dust.

I also recommend you guys check out the driver page for your laptop here: Support for Alienware m15 R3 | Drivers & Downloads | Dell US

and download all chipset drivers and anything that controls the temperatures.
