m15 R5, GPU fan fails to run, incorrect GPU temperature reading

jin167_1-1629098062505.png

I've noticed that sometimes the ACC fails to read the correct GPU temperature which results in GPU fan not operating at all. This is quiet problematic since the CPU temperature will reach 100 deg almost instantly as soon as I try to run any program that requires a GPU.

I got around this problem by setting up a custom thermal profile but I am annoyed by the fact that ACC isn't able to read the correct GPU temperature when third party software like HWMonitor can read the correct temperature values on both CPU and GPU.

Has anyone experienced this issue on their laptop before? I'm on m15 R5 btw.

Hey crimsom, thanks for chiming in. My problem isn't so much about the cpu temp but rather ACC not registering the correct GPU temp therefore leaving the GPU fan useless.

Additionally, now i am unable to use tge FX on ACC and the leds on my laptop are all off and I can't turn them back on. Tried reinstalling the ACC following the guide on dell website but that didn't work at all. Quiet frustrating since the tech support i got in contact didn't know what to do and ended up giving me a bunch of random suggestions..

Do a complete uninstall of the command center and install the oldest version and see if it works. If it does then install the latest version and see if it still works.

I also recommend for thermals SpeedFan because it’s a better thing for detecting thermals inside my Alienware laptop plus desktop. Here’s the link:https://www.almico.com/sfdownload.php

hey, thanks for replying. Yeah, I tried installing the older version of the ACC but the GPU fan and the RGB light still doesn't work. As I mentioned, I can get around the GPU fan issue by setting up a custom thermal profile but the RGB going black and not turning back on is very frustrating.

I tried looking around reddit and youtube but no one seems to know how to deal with this issue..? Someone suggested reinstalling the windows but that wasn't really an acceptable answer, to be honest.

Hey,

It's hilarious how community members are better than the official dell tech supports. Anyways, yes I tried pressing the FN+F12 and .NET framework but none of them has worked... I almost feel like asking for a refund at this point. Dell seriously needs to fix their program it's not even funny how they can't even control the RGB lights on their own hardware.

Did you turn it on via FN + F12?

I read the guide on how to fix the issue.

  • Uninstall the .NET Framework 3.5, 4.0 and 4.5.
  • Restart the computer.
  • Install the .NET Framework 3.5 and 4.5. You can get them from here.

that’s for fixing the LEDs if they’re not turning on.

I recommend just refunding the laptop Immediately.

I have this exact problem and GPU showing the exact same temperature on a g15 nvidia 3060.

My fan seems to work correctly and HWInfo shows different (and probably correct) temps.

Before I recommend installing the first version of command center made for your laptop uninstall the current one and then install the first version so you can see if the error is fixed.

I uninstalled and reinstalled ACC and GFX drivers - no help. Then I restarted Windows again today and suddenly it's reading again.

Dell Support is as always no help.

A year and a half later and I also have this issue! Specs:

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5800H with Radeon Graphics 3.20 GHz

GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 Laptop GPU

I also get readings from HWMonitor, do not get those same readings in Alienware Command Center, and if I set the Thermal setting to Full Throttle, the GPU fan runs just fine. Is there still no fix for this? Did installing the oldest version of Command Center work for anyone?

@ttp126 Hello, I registered because I was having the same problem and showing the same temperature. On the G15 5515. What I did was enter the Bios Press F9 for Default then F10 to save. In my case I have Bios 1.60. I downloaded the same bios and reinstalled the same bios I was using and it recognized the gpu sensor and the fan again.
