m15 R6, FPS drop

Hi. I have an alienware m15 R6, RTX 3070 i7. Basically, after a few minutes playing any game that use the GPU, the FPS drops drastically. I'm tempted to consider that the problem is the GPU, more precisely, the power management from the GPU. This is why:

-CPU has the temperature around 90~100 °C and clock ~4GHz all time. It doesnt drop.

-When i open any game, its energy is around 125W. Temperature 83°C. After a few minutes, the energy drops to 45W, temperature goes fastly to 70°C. Here is two pictures (before, and after the drop). Im playing Rainbow six siege, but it happens with any game.

So, my theory is FPS drops because the laptop, for any reason, reduces the energy for the GPU. Why? I see 3 possibilities:
1)The 240W power adapter isnt adequate for a laptop like this. Maybe the 330w would be better? But the problem with that is: why not everyone is claiming that problem? And others laptops are being sold with the 240w too.
2) Its software a bug. For any reason, the laptop understand that the battery is being drained too fast, and reduces GPU energy.
3) Its a hardware bug. Battery, GPU, the power adapter.

Considerations: I already did any test possible. All my drivers is updated. Im already in communication with the support of my country, and probaly, monday ill decide what ill do. So, what is my objective with that post? To debate with you, and see if anyone else is facing that problem right now. And with that, see if i can find any solution that doesn't need to send my laptop to them.

Hi Vini, I have exactly the same issue, i made a research on internet and this is a common thing with this model, i tried re installling the dell original drivers, with no success, i also updated the machine in all areas, bios, drivers, windows, etc.

After some test i found out that if you use the cooling profile in alienware command center, it limits the cpu wattage and the frecuency, that helps to continue using the gpu without fps drops and no wattage drop.

It's a shame because you have an alienware machine for it's performance right?, i dont know why this is happening.

  1. It's worth to mention, when i have this manchine in their first month, all the thermals were amazing, no passing the 90 celsius, and with a good cpu frecuency, after one update using the alienware update software, the performance was increase but with thermals around 100 mostly of the time.
  2. One major thing to notice, i have this problem (GPU losing fps and wattage) on this month april, on winter, was performing normal, not great but normal.

Let us know what happened with dell support.

Hi @Renton08  the new replacement or refund option is valid during the first 30 days (see invoice for details). Thereafter the Dell warranty provides refurbished hardware, no refund. If battery fails within first year, Dell installs a new replacement battery.
