m17 R3, shutting down

So i think it might be the battery but im not sure.

A couple of precursors, first the original power supply, the cable that plugs into the the laptop became broke and started shorting out, and got another power adapter from Amazon to replace it.  But the difference was the center pin read some voltage on it and the new one dosen't.

I changed the BIOS to depend on the AC adapter to run because the battery was getting old.  Now when i run the HWiNFO the Wear level reads it at 23.4% Designed Capacity is 86002mWh and its reading 65915mWh, the current power status reads 65915mWh 11.682 V.

Recently trying to run Kerbal Space Program it shutsdown every once and awhile and i can get it restarted.

I dont know if its the CPU GPU over heating because of dust, or is the battery being drained to a point the charger cant keep up and the battery dies because the adapter isnt capable.

I have talk to tech support before about sending it in but i dont have the money right now.  I have going to order a battery for it off of amazon but not sure where to start.

Hi

Option 1 Option 2 Option 3 Option 4

130 W

180 W

240 W

330 W

So to run it continuously and to charge the battery, I suspect you want Option 3 or 4.

AND for the battery...

Option 1 Option 2

3-cell 56 WHr "smart" lithium-ion

6-cell 86 WHr "smart" lithium-ion

possibly Option 1.

If you plan to replace the Li-Ion run battery and keep it a while longer, be sure you get a new one ... highly-rated from a reputable source (like dell.com or www.parts-people.com )

Likewise, if going to all this trouble and expense, you should go ahead and get the real/genuine Dell charger for this laptop.

I tried getting a charger from Dell but they dont make the wattage and model i needed for the charger.  If they did i would of gotten it from them.  Now for the battery Dell does have the battery i need for 110 dollars but right now i am short on money.

I payed 1800 for this laptop not more than 4 yrs ago and after the warrenty ran out i lost sound and other things started breaking.  Again do to financial problems i haft to put bandaids on things to keeep them going
