m17 R3, won’t power on
Hello everyone,
My Alienware m17 R3 laptop was on the other day, when I left the room for a few minutes and returned the PC was off. And when I tried restarting it I realised I couldn’t : no image on the screen, no lights anywhere, no noises of any kind, nothing! I tried pressing the power button 30sec and and then one minute with the battery cable plugged out, I tried then powering the laptop both with and without battery and both and without power cable but without success.
There are two things I’d like to mention: first, I had an issue the days before where the computer couldn’t be powered after only pressing the power button once, it had to be pressed a second time to power on, and second I had another Alienware laptop (Alienware 17 R4) that somehow had a more or less similar problem : one day it turned off and couldn’t be powered on again, except that time the green led of the power cable would turn off every time it got plugged into the laptop which might have been a sign of a short circuit, that said this isn’t the case with my m17 R3 the green light of the cable stays on even when plugged into the laptop.
Thank you in advance.

Hi @ABrn welcome to this free user to user Alienware laptop discussion forum. This is not Dell Support.
It seems that your Alienware x17 R1 or R2 has a problem, but there are no POST (Power On Self Test) System-diagnostic lights. Alienware x17 R1 Service Manual | Dell US Evidently the ac adapter diagnostic light remains on when plugged into laptop.
There are a number of fault conditions to consider. Seemingly this laptop was never powered off, because power-on button has a fault and battery is now flat. Your earlier experience suggests that the Power-on button has a fault that could now be permanent. Please make further attempts to power-off, but do not use excessive force that could cause damage.
Laptop without battery is designed to function as Desktop on ac adapter power. Even if battery is flat, the laptop should still work. Please reseat the RAM cards to try and get Alienware splash screen to appear. Alienware x17 R1 Service Manual | Dell US

Hello and thank you for your answer, after entering the serial number of my Laptop on the dell page I must recognise that I misidentified my laptop, it is an Alienware M17 r3 and not an X17 as I erroneously wrote in my first message.
In that regard I am unable to locate where the ram slot are. After opening the back of the laptop all I can see is one slot from the SSD-1 and one empty slot for the SSD-2 and also a massive motherboard.
My apology for my mistake.

My system an M17 R3 had this issue happen, ultimately requiring a mother board replacement! And DC in port replacement as well! But as mentioned, unplug your battery and plug the power cord in, if it boots, replace your battery, the battery contains internal circuitry which may be bad. You can also have a cell tech remotely access and diagnose the problem!!!
