m18 R2, CPU liquid metal reapplication

Hey folks. I have an M18 R2 RTX 4080, overall is a great laptop very powerful. I feel like the Liquid Metal application is very poor on my cpu. Spiking to 100dgrees and causing random stuttering every once in a while. I have a cooler order but I’m interested in repasting my Liquid Metal cause from what I’ve been reading it comes poorly done from the factory. How do you go about getting the Liquid Metal that Alienware uses? Or do I need to send the laptop back to get them to take care of it for warrenty purposes?

Hi

Dunno.

#############

Hope this helps..........

CPU liquid metal thermal compounds can be purchased from various online retailers and computer hardware stores. Some popular options include:

  1. Amazon: Offers a wide selection of liquid metal thermal compounds, including brands like Thermal Grizzly Conductonaut.
  2. Overclockers UK: Sells Thermal Grizzly Conductonaut Liquid Metal Thermal Paste.
  3. eBay: Has a variety of liquid metal products available from different sellers.
  4. Walmart: Offers liquid metal thermal compounds in their computer hardware section.
  5. Specialized computer hardware stores: Many local and online computer hardware retailers stock liquid metal thermal compounds.

Liquid metal should be reapplied to a CPU after about 3-4 weeks from the initial application

This initial period allows for ion migration into the copper heatsink. After this first month, you should disassemble your device and reapply the liquid metal
The reapplication process is important because it helps maintain the liquid metal in its optimal state. Initially, liquid metal can dry out and become powdery over time. By reapplying after the first month, you ensure:
  1. Better long-term performance
  2. Proper distribution of the liquid metal
  3. Prevention of drying out or degradation

When reapplying, follow these steps:

  1. Clean the CPU surface and heatsink with isopropyl alcohol
  2. Apply a small drop of liquid metal to the CPU using the micro tip.
  3. Spread the liquid metal evenly using the supplied cotton swab.
  4. Apply liquid metal to the heatsink where it contacts the CPU.
  5. Reassemble your device carefully.

After this initial reapplication, the frequency of future reapplications may vary depending on your specific hardware and usage. However, it's generally a good practice to check and potentially reapply every 1-2 years to maintain optimal thermal performance.
