m18 R2, initial battery charge question

I just purchased the m18 r2. I've read that with laptops you should charge the battery for 24 hours. I know some people say that's not necessary, but I did it with my previous (MSI) laptop and had great battery life - so I'm planning on doing this with my new one. My question is - does it matter if I quit charging a few hours in, and then resume charging a little while later (like 1/2 hour)? It's because I'll be initially charging it at work, but will still need to more when I get home.
