@mattyb3 hey i know this post is a old one but i was wondering if you cant just change the vbios of the cards too start in legacy instead of uefi or maybe change the bios to be enable for uefi boot?

i would like to know if possible too flash the vbios of the gtx 980m to a legacy boot maybe that would help for the legacy boot issue with the alienware m18x r1 but i dont know. Problably easier too find a uefi moded bios for the m18x r1 and probably with the bonus of having it with unlocked capability and also making the unlock bios still accesible because i cant find it or reach the download link that actually work

@WiliamNES64 At this stage nobody has been able to work out a solution to get anything past the 800M series to work in the R1. Many clever guys have tried but nothing has worked so far. No current unlocked BIOS will do the job.

Unlocked BIOS' are free to download on the NotebookTalk.net forum and you may find a few more guys who are still messing around with these machines there.

@WiliamNES64 In the R2, you can switch the BIOS to UEFI boot but you can also Disable Legacy Option ROM. This is something that you need to do to get the 900M series working but there is no option for this in the unlocked R1 BIOS.

@mattyb3 well thanks a lot for your response if possible can you share the link for a unlocked bios for the alienware m18x r1 ? and for the gpu i dont think it necesseraly needs a uefi boot im pretty sure i can find someone some how that know how to mod vbios and change the card necessety for uefi boot too just make it bootable on legacy but if possible can you share me the unlocked bios because i wish to overclock a little my laptop because right now i have a

i7 2960xm

28gb ddr3 1600mhz

gtx 780m single (wish to upgrade to gtx 980m in sli )

but like you said nobody really succeeded but i wish to change that because the alienware m18x r1 is still a impressive laptop

@WiliamNES64 The R2's definitely still fetch a better price than the R1. I sold one of my R2's recently for about $1000AUD, It was in great condition with a few aftermarket extras on it though.

I wish you luck. Some guys I know have also tried messing with the vBIOS and still had no luck so you will be doing very well to get the 980M working after all these years. You should start a post on NotebookTalk so all your findings are available over there as well.
