M18x R2, speakers, audio not working
Hey guys,
I just bought an alienware m18x r2 second hand. I was checking everything and found out that when I had my earphones plugged in both the audio and the earphones were playing at the same time. In order to fix this I went into the audio drivers and clicked update and changed the nvidia to the other one (forgot what its called). THe sound was working perfectly fine and was transitioning from earphones to laptop speakers perfectly fine. I was watching a video about os backup as I was just about to do that and suddenly my sound was not working. The sound logo is muted and it says "Speakers and audio not detected". In addition to that the fans are louder than they normally are.
The specs are:
Windows 10
Intel core i7 3rd gen
16gb ram
If anyone has any solution to this please let me know as I need to watch my online lectures.

Congrats on buying the greatest laptop ever made. Yes, I am biased.
Firstly I would check that the Creative Sound Blaster Recon3Di driver is installed. If the machine recently had a clean installation of Windows done then there is a chance that it didn't auto install.
Use the Service Tag (found on the bottom of your machine) and enter it in the Support section of Dells Website. Click on Drivers and Downloads and see if you can find the Creative Labs Audio driver. Download and Install it. Or just click on the link below. If you still don't have audio then there could be a more serious issue with your board.

If the fans are loud then there's a chance that nobody has ever given it a good service. The fans and heatsink fins can build up with dust and fluff over the years and they will block the hot air from escaping. You will have to remove the fans to blow them out and then you can see if the heatsinks are blocked. The thermal compound on the GPU's and CPU also needs to be replaced regularly. You will have to remove the heatsinks to do this.
Always remove the power adapter and battery before doing any of this. You have to remove the battery to access the rear panel anyway but just make sure you're unplugged.
If you have never worked on the inside of a laptop before then watch some youtube videos first. Just search for M18x teardown. There are precautions to think about before you dive in. Do not work on the machine while standing on carpet or in socks as you can build up static electricity and short out your board or a component.
