Overheating and crashing reviews
Hi,
I have an Alienware M17. During the hot days this summer, the laptop would only last 5 minutes before it failed.
A cooling mat helps, but I don't want a system that cannot cool itself reliably.
So, after a tortuous email exchange with Dell, they sent an engineer to fix it. He fitted a missing SSD heatsink and repasted.
This has helped with the crashing. However, the CPU Package is still over 105 degrees and the SSD runs at 89 degrees even after throttling.
I am worried that these temperatures are affecting the long-term reliability of the machine.
I've asked dell for a replacement (or similar system as this line has been discontinued?), but they are refusing any further fixes.
Just to prove a point, the laptop has crashed twice whilst typing this. The crash is always a DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE

It may not be heat related though that CPU temp is way too high. The following might help with that error.

To clarify. The crashes during normal operation relate to the power failure.
Crashes due to overheating are basically the system shutting down with no reason. Sometimes this is after a few minutes where the screen shutters. Sometimes it just dies.
The HWInfo application has shown categorical proof of the overheating but all I get from Dell is offers of more diagnostic checks (already done).
