x14 R1, frame drops
Alienware x14
Hello,
Hoping someone can help as I have literally spent hours with tech support and I need a break.
I bought an x14 R1 a few months ago and it's been an ABSOLUTE NIGHTMARE. I keep experiencing frame drops in every game I've played. After hours on the phone with tech support, including multiple reimages/reinstallations of windows and a laptop exchange, I continue to have the issue.
Has anyone else had this issue?
Thank you!

Here are some suggestions for further troubleshooting:
Monitor your system's CPU and GPU temperatures during gameplay to see if they are overheating and causing performance issues. You can use software like HWMonitor or MSI Afterburner to monitor temperatures.
Check that your drivers are up-to-date, especially your graphics card drivers. You can check for updates on the manufacturer's website or use a tool like Driver Booster to automatically scan for and install updates.
Run a stress test on your system to see if it can handle the workload. Software like FurMark or Prime95 can be used to stress test your GPU and CPU, respectively.
Try lowering the graphics settings in your games to see if that improves performance. If it does, gradually increase the settings until you find a balance between performance and visuals.

Thanks for the tips. I can certainly try these, but I don't expect them to help much. I know for a fact all the drivers are up-to-date. Also, given the specs on this computer, there's no reason I should have to lower settings. And since it's a new computer and sits on top of a cooling laptop "tray", I don't expect temperature issues
The primary reason for this post is to see if there are any others that have experience this specific issue. I'm trying to determine if I should just request a refund. I had high hopes for this computer, but this has been a disappointment.

Hello all,
Since starting this post, I have confirmed that it's the ALIENWARE SOFTWARE ITSELF (SupportAssist and Alienware Command Center) that is most likely to blame here. I proved this theory by doing a complete reimage/reinstall of Windows. I was able to play games no problem. However, once I installed the software, I started having the frame drop issue. Obviously, I know the solution is to just not install the software. The issue with that is the software keeps my laptop up to date (drivers, etc.) and running at its best.
There are two processes in particular that have a spike in CPU usage when I have this frame drop issue: "Services and Controller App" and "WMI Provider Host"
So, what are your thoughts? Is Alienware software all that important and do I just deal with the occasional frame drop? Or should I remove the software? Or, better yet, does anyone know of a fix so I can keep the software installed and fix the frame drop issue
FYI, this affects multiple games
Thank you!!
