x14 R1, keyboard keep shutting down

Hi,

My keyboard for some reason keeps shutting down for some reason. Sometimes I type and it does not work. Lightning works even though I cannot type anything. Function keys are working. Just I cannot type. I will have to go on the device manager and do Scan for hardware changes and then it works. After some time (it depends it can be from 10 minutes to 2 hours) it keeps shutting down. I updated all the drivers. It did not help. I reinstalled my pc and it did not help. If you have any tips/ advices. Because if I will have to bring it to repair it would take up to 30 days and I do not have a spare pc.

Thank you.

hey there @idk12 , this is exactly the same issue of my x14. Please check out my post to see if you can find any ideas. Also, did you update the firmware of the keyboard?

I'm not recommending you to do so, I'm asking because if I recall correctly, I did and the problems came afterwards. Here is the link, and if you haven't maybe it will help you: Alienware 1 Zone Keyboard Firmware Update Utility .

Here is my post: x14 R1, keyboard stops working after some time

Hi @idk12 welcome to this free user-to-user Alienware laptop discussion forum.

If Device Manager has error or warning icon, the driver will move to the right to say it requires to be fixed. Please use the three key combination Shift + Windows + S to take picture and click on message camera icon to share this picture in next post. Thank you.

Having visited Device Manager and 'Scan for hardware changes' to get keyboard working, Restart (not Shut Down) to save this change to the windows operating system.

Double-click Keyboards. Then, right-click your Keyboard's name and select Properties. Click the Power Management tab, verify that the box next to Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power is unchecked, then click OK.

@AdrianG001thanks for your reply. I checked this a while ago, and in my case, the "Allow windows to power off..." Is greyed out without the check mark.

However, the "Allow this device to wake up the PC" (or something like that) is available, checked and removing the check doesn't have any impact on the keyboard.

Thanks again!
