x15 R1, can't run keyboard update utility

Alienware x15 R1

Alienware x15 R1

Hi all,

I have an extremely frustrating situation. I am trying to run Alienware_X15 R1_X17 R1_Per key Keyboard Firmware Update Utility_V26.exe and no matter what I do, it logs Fail / 3. I have tried to run it with the /f, and with /f /s. There is no change. I tried to run it on the original Windows 10 Recovery Image and also after updating it to Windows 11. I believe the firmware is already applied, however, I would like to force it to rewrite the firmware due to an RGB issue and key mapping issue I am having. Can anyone offer some advice?

Thanks in advance for any ideas.

Hi @djowen6565 welcome to this free user-to-user Alienware laptop discussion forum.

Connect to internet, visit Device Manager and delete the driver installed by the Alienware Per Key Keyboard Firmware Update Utility | Driver Details | Dell US. Restart (not Shut Down) to save this change. After restart wait for internet to automatically install this 'missing' driver.

I believe you're giving instructions for a driver issue. I have a firmware issue.
