x15 R1, Touchpad light not working

So I just got my x15 R1 today and there seems to be no trackpad touchpad light. Please tell me there is a way to turn it on as I was led to believe it indeed has a touchpad light. It's one of the reasons I picked this model. Does it have a lighted touchpad or am I mistaken?

There is discussion that Alienware x15 R1 GTX 3080 has Touchpad Backlight. x15 R1, Touchpad backlight not working - Dell Community Go to BIOS, Advanced tab, and if there is a Touchpad Backlight option, toggle this on or off.

  1. Check the current Alienware Command Centre (AWCC) version.
  2. If the AWCC version is not 5.5.0 or newer, update the AWCC version to newer.
  3. Restart the computer (Keyboard function and Backlight may still not work after this step.)
  4. Open AWCC, it takes about 15 secs to auto reflash the Keyboard Firmware. The keyboard and Backlight do not function during the flashing process. Once the flash is complete, the Keyboard Functions and Backlight should be recovered.

Please let me know if the light glows when you disable the touchpad from the Dell Touchpad software utility. Also, does the touchpad gets disabled and enabled when you press the Fn + F3 repeatedly even if the touchpad light does not lit up.

Open the charms bar by moving the mouse to right top corner of the screen and in the search box, Start typing ‘control panel’ select ‘mouse’ Double click Dell Touchpad and disable on the application window by clicking Touchpad On/Off.

If you followed @crimsom tutorial he listed in his reply, I highly recommend checking if your trackpad light is on inside the AW command center.

Great troubleshooting here! But based on the private Service Tag provided, neoncoyote does not have the x15 R1. neoncoyote has the m15 R6, so no touchpad LED.

Not Solved, I must have given you the wrong service tag because I returned the m15 and without a doubt I have an x15 r1 Infront of me now.  How do I send you the private tag?

Reply to one of the private messages from the Dell agents with the x15 R1 service tag. Currently, all we see on your case is the m15 R6 service tag.

Hi @neoncoyote  thanks for waiting. In response to your question "do u know why or how to fix it?", we have been trying to understand your options. Please be aware that this is just a user-to-user chat with no obligation on Dell.

Background: your x15 R1 has the GeForce GTX 3060 6GB, and @crimsom cannot find any relationship between the chosen GPU and the Touchpad. There are TWO Touchpad options for the x15 R1, but your invoice does not say which option was ordered.

With seemingly no clear relationship about installed touchpad backlight option, this can only be individually determined by user looking in BIOS. The absence of BIOS touchpad backlight option cannot be fixed by reinstalling BIOS update. I suppose that installing new touchpad hardware with touchpad backlight could be the fix, although getting factory build option would have been ideal during ordering. However, user seemingly not made aware that factory build with or without touchpad backlight was an ordering option.

Remedy: Advocate visit your online Dell account to create Service Request as a formal complaint, to be escalated to senior Dell tier that can authorise your chosen remedy. Requesting a remedy, allows senior Dell tier to consider the merit of your remedy, in the context of what happened during ordering. So be clear in your formal complaint about what options did, or did not, get offered during ordering. I guess that the default might have been only install if parts are available.

Please click on @DELL-Cares to send Private Message requesting assistance. Thanks.

Hope that your chosen remedy is approved. Kind regards.
