x17 R1, U2419HC, connection help
Hi guys,
I just got this Alienware X17 laptop. I wanted to connect it to my Dell U2419HC monitor using a USB Type C to A 3.0 cable (2m). But it will not work. I get no display signal. The laptop detects no signal from the monitor. The connection flow is:
Alienware X17 -> USB A 3.2 Gen 1 port -> USB A cable end
to
USB C cable end -> USB C port -> Dell U2419HC monitor.
The only way to get it to work is to use a USB Type C to C gen 2 cable. But that cable is only 1m in length and that is not a suitable length for where I want need to position my laptop.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks

* USB Type-C to C cables are video, audio, and USB data
* USB Type-C to USB Type-A cables are USB data only. They are used to give the PC access to the monitor USB downstream ports
Your U2419HC did not ship with a USB Type-C to USB Type-A cable. The U2419HC shipped with the USB Type-C to C cable and the DP to DP cable. The U2419HC has one USB Type-C/DP port used to transfer both video and data to the PC USB Type-C port.
So if the PC was connecting to the U2419HC via DP to DP or HDMI to HDMI, you would then have to connect the retail USB Type-C to USB Type-A cable to access the U2419HC USB downstream ports.

Hi I researched into this and Type C to C gen 2 cables only work well over 1m so there is actually not that many 2m cables out there. I did find one at £75 which was quite expensive.
I want to know why the USB Type C to A 3.0 cable does not work
