x17 R2, fan error 2000:0712 during pre-boot diagnostics

Hi,

My x17 R2 laptop often (once a week) gets a fan error (failed to set fan speed) from the pre-boot diagnostic:

Fan - The fan failed to respond correctly. (GPU2) code: 2000-0712

It happens when the laptop is powered on from a cold boot. Shut down the system the previous night and boot it up in the morning. After the error shows up,  doing the "diagnostics" again will pass all the tests. All the fans seem to be working properly after. But still got the pre-boot error every week. Shall I be concerned about the error or it's a false positive? The bios and all drivers are up to date and vents are not clogged.

It sounds very much like this post. That is a fan that runs up to speed after it has had a chance to run for a short time (2nd boot) or running diagnostics a 2nd time, but when cold the fan is running slowly. If under warranty I would call Dell tech support for assistance.

Hi @krymes welcome to this free user to user Alienware laptop discussion forum. This is not Dell Support.

Dell says that this issue should be reported. Please visit your online Dell account and create Service Request so that Dell Technical Support knows there is a problem to fix. You should get request to allow remote session, so that Dell can run their diagnostic applications. They will arrange for hardware replacement if that is the problem.

My X17R2 also has this problem, they have replaced the fan module for me, but the problem still exists and frequently crashes, currently contacted by phone, but customer service deliberately hangs up or does not respond after answering, completely disappointed with Alien, 7000AU bought a scrap.
