Avamar agent and "Double Take" software - issues?

I am working on a project and the customer is using a software product called "Double Take". Apparently this is "replication/mirroring" software that syncs up drives/volumes on one system with drives on another, and going forward only updates the changes in files.

Relative to what I have read about the product, there is nothing currently listed about issues with any backup software. The product info appears to state that it "plays nice" with VSS as well, so that shouldn't be an issue.

However, at this customer site, the Double Take "agent" on the mirror/replication "target" will intermittently stop running, and coincidentally, the Avamar agent on the target (installed to perform test backups prior to implementing it on the source, or possibly just keeping it on the target to backup the data) also stops running as well. The customer doesn't really see any error information on the Double Take side, and there isn't really any information on the Avamar agent side either. The customer is still in the process of investigating the Windows logs.

What makes things frustrating is that whatever the cause of the agent issues is, it's intermittent. On some days, both agents have run with no issues, and the scheduled Avamar test backup of the target will run successfully (other than one reparse point error).

Just wondering if anyone else has had any exposure to Double Take in an environment where Avamar was being used.

All comments/feedback appreciated - thanks.

Just my first thought:  ports, are they by chance trying to talk over the same ports?
