Avamar Data Domain Cloud Tier configuration

We just recently installed Avamar 7.4 with Data Domain, and Cloud Tier with Virtrustream.

But the problem is there is no complete documentation as to how to completely integrate everything.

I have Avamar configured correctly, and can see the backups marked as cloud.

But the on the Data Domain side, it's clear how the Avamar backups get moved to the cloud tier.

It says in the Avamar 7.4 Data Domain System Integration documentation NOT to use Mtree to move data to the cloud, so how is the data to be moved to the cloud.

I found under Settings where you can configure Data Movement, which I did.

But I log into Virtrustream, and still see nothing there.

Anyone have any advice, or anyone successfully deploy this solution yet.

Actually right after posting this, I re-logged back into Virtrustream, and saw space was being used.  Maybe my browser just needed to refresh, not sure.  It looks like Avamar controls most everything.  I did have to schedule the movement in Data Domain under Settings, and that seems about all I do in Data Domain.

My knowledge is currently limited on this new feature but my understanding is as follows;

Once configured, Avamar plays a 'directing' role, telling DataDomain which backups should be migrated to the cloud and when.

If we were to configure movement of M-Tree data at a DataDomain level, Avamar wouldn't be aware of the new location of the backups so would be unable to manage or restore them.

Just to quote from the v7.4 Avamar/DD System integration guide that you mentioned:-

Using the Data Domain M-Tree data movement policy to move Avamar backups to the cloud is not supported. Avamar backups should be tiered to the cloud using the Avamar software to configure tiering groups and perform tiering operations. Otherwise the Avamar software will be unaware of the location of the backups in the cloud and unable to perform recoveries or manage policies for those backups.

The DD Cloud Tier functionality should manage the 'tiering' of data to Virtustream according to the preferences configured by the user in Avamar.  If that isn't happening it would be appropriate to engage Professional Services (PS) to check the configuration.  PS can work with DataDomain Support and/or Avamar Support if something doesn't appear to be behaving as expected.
