Avamar replication with integrated data domains

I have an Avamar single node with integrated Data Domain at one site, and an Avamar single node with integrated Data Domain at a second site.  I'm trying to configure bandwidth control for replication between the sites.  I configure bandwidth limits for replication using the Avamar Enterprise Manager, but this seems to make no difference.  It still attempts to use as much bandwidth as possible, going well past the limit I configured.

My question is, is it possible to put a bandwidth limit on Avamar replication?  If so, where do I configure this?  Thanks in advance!

Thank you for your patience. I heard back from one of my colleagues today.

It is possible to throttle the replication from the DDR side but this throttle would be applied system-wide, meaning all DDR replication jobs would be throttled. If your DDR is dedicated to Avamar, this likely won't be an issue but it's something to be aware of in bigger / shared environments.

For details on how to set up throttling on the DDR side, please see the Replication Throttle article from the Data Domain Knowledge Base. You will need a PowerLink account to access the article. If you need to tune the replication because the link is high bandwidth, high latency, there is also a Replication Bandwidth and Delay Options article.

Any bandwidth limits imposed in the EM will apply to the Avamar-to-Avamar portion of the replication only. In Avamar / DDR integrated replication, the Avamar invokes a special replication mode on the source DDR system. The DDR portion of the replication is managed by the DDRs themselves.

I've reached out to some people internally to find out if it's possible to bandwidth throttle the replication stream for the Avamar integration on the DDR side. I'll let you know what I find out.

Thanks so much.  I figured that that was the case.  I look forward to hearing what your internal people have to say.

I'm still hunting for the answer on this one. Sorry for the delay.

Thanks so much ianderson!  Yes our Data Domain unit is integrated with our Avamar, so system-wide throttling is ok.  Your feedback is definitely appreciated.

HIi,

Thanks for sharing the details.

Do we have to configure any replication in DD , if we are trying to replicate from an IDPA Avamar to a standalone avamar ?I read some ifgroup configurtions for Mtree between DDs.

I was able to replicate between regular avamars without any extra tasks from DD.

Please help
