Backup Windows 2012R2 file cluster?
Hi
I got a big big 3-node Windows cluster with quite a few shares distributed among five roles. Pardon if my nomenclature is not according to MS standard.
One role is a SOFS and some others are regular file server roles i guess. According to Avamar docs, there are two ways of installing AV client, "Federated cluster client" and "proxy cluster client". Avamar Cluster Wizard auto detects plugin as Windows Proxy Cluster and installs the proxy way.
If I understand this correct, you should only have one proxy per cluster and therefore I need to backup all my roles/shares via a single node? This is not especially efficient if compared to the old way when you could distribute jobs, each job pointing towards a different virtual cluster address and ulimately, if cluster resources was distributed evenly among nodes, I would be getting more network bandwidth and generally better speed and flexibility.
This cluster holds several TB of data and backing these in a serial way will take too long.
Is my understanding of the recommended way correct? You should only have one proxy per cluster?
If not, can I install proxy on each and every node in the cluster? And thereby getting to distribute load among more nodes in my cluster.
Avamar is version 7.3.226 btw.
