Does stopping MCS stop all backup activity?

Hi,

Does stopping the MCS stop all backup activity? I know restarting MCS clears the Activity Monitor, but I wondered whether backups that were running prior to MCS being restarted would still continue regardless, even though they would then not be able to be monitored from the GUI.

Thanks.

Stopping MCS will not stop any backups that are already running. The client agent will only stop a running backup if it receives a cancellation workorder and the MCS does not issue cancellation workorders when it shuts down..

Thanks Ian. I assume that applies to restore jobs too?

Can jobs be started (e.g. through command line from another process, such as ADMe) when MCS is down?

Yep!

It depends which command line process you mean. Backups that use bare avtar like Oracle RMAN will work but backups that use MCS <=> agent communication will not. I had a quick chat with Adam Kirkpatrick and ADMe starts jobs through the MCS so you will not be able to use ADMe with the MCS down.
