dpnnetutil, vlans, avinstaller, duplicate route

Greetings All,

The subject title looks ominous but it is not really that bad.  I have a support request open already but wanted to bounce this off the community.

This is a new Gen4 Install for a customer.  Customer has clients that live on multiple vlans.  As per the Procedure Generator, Install guide etc.  After configuring the Utility node and DS's with Yast, I ran dpnnetutil so I could configure the vlans and custom host names.  During this process I noticed that there was no place to put in default gateways for each VLAN.  The only default gateway was the main utility node.  Ok no problem.  I was able to load the dpnid and peform the mapall command and verify connectivity between all of the nodes.  Started AVInstaller, no problem.  When the installer goes to 45% it tries to start the gsan.  After a few minutes it comes back with an error about a duplicate route to network x.x.x.x.  At first I thought this might have been that I listed the utility node and one of the VLANs on the same network (as they are  physically).  However after going back and removing that vlan, rebooting the nodes, verifying connectivity and restarting the install the same error came up again.

When I do a /sbin/route -n  I do not see any duplicate networks.  What I do see is all of my vlan addresses with a default gateway of 0.0.0.0 (which is typically a default network) and then the default network lists the default gateway I entered while using dpnnetutil.  I am wondering if the fact that everything is routing out of the one gateway if that is why the error message is being produced and being flagged as a duplicate route. (I would upload the screenshot but that functionality appears broken at the moment)

So I guess my question is this?  Does Avamar route everything through the default gateway for different vlans?  Doesn't each vlan need to have it's DFG?

Second... The Utility and DS nodes will all have an IP Address that is part of a specific VLAN.  I can add that VLAN in as a backup network but then I do end up with two networks that go out the same gateway.  I do not see an issue with this but eliminated it as part of my troubleshooting process for the duplicate route issue.  I still get the same error even with that VLAN missing so I imagine it is not part of the overall problem.

Am I missing something in dpnnetutil for adding in VLAN gateways?  I have gone back several times and re-run the utility looking for a place to add DFG's for the vlans but there is not one.  Only option is for the other nodes needing one and that is not really the case here.  Do I need to physically edit the routes file thus making it a static route for each vlan?

Open to just about any ideas at this time.

Thanks,Jerry

I've found configuring VLANs has been easier to do by hand using the ifroute-bond?. files but I don't run dpnnetutil very often as I don't generally run installs.

I documented the process I follow to configure static routes in the "Avamar Route ADD" discussion on these forums.

can we configure VLANs on bond2 for dedicated replication?
