Each Avamar subdomain to use a different DD Boost user?
Hi,
Is it possible for each Avamar subdomain to use a different DD Boost user?
To be clear, that is one (1) Data Domain hardware with multiple DD Boost users created.
The plan is to manually map each Avamar subdomain to a separate DD Boost user/account.
For example, on the same Avamar server:
AvDomain1 backs up to DD using DDBoostUser1 credentials
AvDomain2 backs up to DD using DDBoostUser2 credentials
AvDomain3 backs up to DD using DDBoostUser3 credentials
We are trying to achieve data isolation as detailed in the following whitepaper about Data Domain secure multi-tenancy.
The document doesn't say much about mapping Avamar domains to DD Boost accouts, though.
http://www.emc.com/collateral/white-papers/h12937-why-data-domain-secure-multi-tenancy-wp.htm
If it is not possible, then the only other option I can see would be to deploy a separate Avamar server for each DD Boost user, as in:
AvamarServer1 backs up to DD using DDBoostUser1 credentials
AvamarServer2 backs up to DD using DDBoostUser2 credentials
AvamarServer3 backs up to DD using DDBoostUser3 credentials
...etc.
Anyway, don't know which approach is correct/possible.
Thanks for your help!

You cannot use multiple user accounts with Single Avamar Server. If you want segregation of data then you can use multiple Avamar Grid's writing to the Same DataDomain with Different User Accounts.

Thanks for clarifying.
Since we will be using Avamar Virtual Edition, I take it that each DD Boost user account would require a separate Avamar VE server.
Effectively, that would mean each "tenant" (or business department) in my organization would need to have their own dedicated Avamar VE server, each pointing to a different DD Boost user account on the DataDomain.
In other words, I cannot do this with the "Multiple Avamar subdomains" approach.
Please correct me if I'm wrong.
Thanks again.

This is correct. Currently each Avamar server can only be configured with a single set of DDBoost credentials. If you wish to use DD multi-tenancy, you will have to set up a separate AVE for each tenant.
